Spend 4 Skill Points in the Social Tree

As Isolation is a higher-tier Advanced skill, it is unlocked by spending a total of 4 skill points in the Social skill tree before it can be learned.

How to Rank Up Isolation Skill

Rank Challenge Effects
1 Spend a total of 4 Skill Points in the Social tree. Do +10% weapon damage and gain 15 Damage Resistance for each Spacesuit and Helmet equipped when you don't have a companion or any crew.
2 Kill 20 enemies while not in command of a follower. Do +20% weapon damage and gain 30 Damage Resistance for each Spacesuit and Helmet equipped when you don't have a companion or any crew.
3 Kill 50 enemies while not in command of a follower. Do +30% weapon damage and gain 45 Damage Resistance for each Spacesuit and Helmet equipped when you don't have a companion or any crew.
4 Kill 100 enemies while not in command of a follower. Do +40% weapon damage and gain 60 Damage Resistance for each Spacesuit and Helmet equipped when you don't have a companion or any crew.

Dismiss your Follower by Talking to Them

Starfield - Dismiss your Follower by Talking to Them
Talk to your follower and select the "I think It's time we went our separate ways" option or something similar to dismiss them as your follower.

Some quests require some NPCs to follow you for some duration of a quest, such as Vasco during the One Small Step quest or Sarah during The Old Neighborhood quest.

Having active crew members on your ship or outposts does not affect the Isolation skill.

Start the Game with the Introvert Trait

Starfield - Start with the Introvert Trait
Isolation pairs well the Introvert trait which decreases your oxygen consumption while you do not have a follower present.
