You will be prompted to choose between paying the ransom fee or killing Matsura the Grim during the Back to Vectera quest in Starfield. Learn about all the available choices, the consequences of each choice, and which choice is best!
Choice | Consequences |
---|---|
Persuade Matsura to Let Barrett Go | Persuade Matsura to avoid killing him and his bodyguards, or pay Barret's ransom fee. |
Pay the Ransom Fee | Pay Matsura the ransom fee to peacefully take Barrett home. |
Attack Matsura and Eliminate the Bodyguards | Attacking Matsura will require you to eliminate him and all of his bodyguards before you can escape with Barrett. |
After reaching Barrett inside the Ransacked Research Outpost, you will find him with a Pirate named Matsura the Grim. They will explain that they share a history with SysDef and are on good terms. After this exchange, you will be presented with a choice: either attack Matsura or pay him a ransom fee in Credits before you are able to leave with Barrett to complete the Quest.
Back to Vectera Walkthrough and Rewards
The first option is to attempt to persuade Matsura to release Barrett without paying the ransom fee. If you successfully persuade him, you can avoid the fee. However, if your persuasion attempt fails, you will be left with the other two options: paying the fee or attacking Matsura. It is advisable to try this option first to see if you can either avoid confronting Matsura or paying the ransom fee.
Paying the ransom fee will set Barrett free. This option allows you to avoid battling Matsura and his bodyguards for a small price. It's worth noting that there are no rewards for killing Matsura, and you won't encounter him again. It's advisable to simply pay the fee and complete the quest.
