This guide lists the best reactors and explains the class and stats of reactors in Starfield. Read on to learn the best reactors, what is class in reactors, where to buy reactors, what is the highest reactor limit, as well as to see a list of all reactors.
List of Contents
Reactor | Analysis | Location | Level Req. |
---|---|---|---|
Pinch 8Z Reactor | Best Reactor Overall | Ship Technicians in most cities | Level 60 |
360T Stellarator Reactor | Best Early Game Reactor | Ship Technicians in most cities | Level 14 |
Module | Value | Power Generated | Required Skill |
---|---|---|---|
Pinch 8Z Reactor | 85200 | 40 | ・Starship Design (Rank 4) ・Piloting (Rank 4) |
The Pinch 8Z Reactor is the best reactor that can be encountered in the game so far. Despite its high cost and high skill requirement, it's one of the few reactors that provides a whopping 40 power to your ship. This will allow you to power a lot of parts without the need to constantly reallocate power levels during space combat.
It is better than the SF40 Sheared Flow Reactor since it has higher health and repair rate, even though they share the same power generation.
The Pinch 8Z Reactor, while rare, can be found from various ship vendors, but it can only be bought once your character reaches level 60. More powerful ship parts are locked behind character levels, and it will only start appearing once you reach that level.
Module | Value | Power Generated | Required Skill |
---|---|---|---|
360T Stellarator Reactor | 18800 | 20 | None |
The 360T Stellarator Reactor is the best early game reactor. It provides the highest power at 20 without requiring any skills, so you will be able to purchase it even if you're not investing skill points in Starship Design.
While the 134MM Toroidal Reactor provides the same number of power, the 360T Stellarator Reactor has a higher reactor health and repair rate for only a slightly higher price.
The reactor can be purchased from ship technicians in most cities once your character reaches level 14.
Class | Indicates the tier of a ship part. The reactor's class also sets the tier limit of parts that can be attached to the ship. |
---|---|
Power Generated | Indicates the number of power levels you can allocate to different ship parts during spaceflight. |
Repair Rate | Indicates the speed at which the reactor regains power levels after being damaged. |
Reactor Health | Indicates the amount of damage the reactor can sustain before malfunctioning and losing power levels. |
Hull | Increases your ship's health by the indicated number. |
Crew Capacity | Increases the number of crew members your ship can accommodate. |
The Reactor module is your ship's power source. The module determines the number of levels you can allocate to different parts of the ship during space flight. Your ship can only have one reactor when customizing your ship.
What is the Class Stat? |
---|
|
Reactors come with a stat called class that indicates the maximum tier of parts you can attach to your ship. Classes can either be A, B, or C, with the latter being the highest tier being accompanied by the best stats.
The reactor's class sets the limit for the other ship parts. If your ship has a Class B reactor, you can only attach parts that are either from the same class or lower.
Skill | Description |
---|---|
Piloting |
As more people journey into space, the number of those certified to effectively pilot various types of spacecraft has increased dramatically. |
Starship Design |
As with "car culture" on Earth centuries ago, there are those who pride themselves on the ability to modify their own spaceships. |
To be able to purchase and install parts from higher classes on your ship, you'll need to level up the skills listed above. At higher ranks, The Piloting skill will allow you to pilot Class B and C ships, while the Starship Design skill will allow you to install higher class parts to your ship.
Module | Value | Power Generated | Required Skill |
---|---|---|---|
Pinch 8Z Reactor | 85200 | 40 | ・Starship Design (Rank 4) ・Piloting (Rank 4) |
In our playthroughs, the highest reactor power or reactor limit that we've encountered is 40. This comes from the Pinch 8Z Reactor that becomes available for purchase from ship technicians once your character reaches higher levels.
If you're getting this error while customizing your ship, this means that you have parts attached that have a higher class than your current reactor. Your ship's reactor limits the tier of parts that can be attached. If your reactor is Class B, your ship can only include parts that are Class A and Class B.
To fix this error, either upgrade your reactor to a higher class or downgrade parts until they all meet your reactor's class.
Ship Building and Customization Guide
Visit ship technicians in city spaceports to access the game's ship editor. From the ship editor screen, you can choose to either upgrade parts or fully customize your ship in the shipbuilder mode.

The skill walls and respective items are broken, why does level 4 design unlock a whole bunch of reactors all with comparable stats, why does it unlock As with 29 power and Cs with 40? Yet nothing beyond simple 40 power, they really dumbed it down to the point of booooring….
