How to Tell if Companions Can Say Your Name

Vasco Will Say It for the First Time After the Pirate Fight on Vectera

After you defeat the attacking Pirates and talk to Barrett on Vectera, you'll hear Vasco say your name as you're about to board the Frontier for the first time in the One Small Step main quest. This occurs about 20-30 minutes into the story, so it's a bit of a pain to test out various names to see if they are compatible.

As of right now, it doesn't seem like there is an easier way to confirm if Vasco can say your entered character name or not.

Only Vasco Can Say Your Name

Only Vasco can say player names, similar to how Codsworth was the only NPC able to say your name in Fallout 4. None of the other companions or followers say your name.

How to Recruit Vasco

Expect At Least 900 Names

Players can expect up to or at least 900 names that companions will be able to say, seeing as Codsworth from Fallout 4 was capable of saying 924 names at launch, and then an additional 300 names added later on in Fallout 4 patch 1.6.
