Your background as a Homesteader has led you to a life of self-sufficiency. Scavenging can be learned to gather materials, while Planetary Habitation will help with Outpost building, and Gastronomy to give you more crafting options.
Traveling to other planets to settle there is also something you're familiar with. Improve your ship's grav drive with Astrodynamics and get a lay of the land with skills like Astrophysics and Surveying.
Once you've found a good spot, you can set up Outposts and improve them with Outpost Engineering and Outpost Management. To defend yourself and your settlement, you can learn Combat Skills such as Dueling.

Since you'll likely encounter all sorts of enemies during your exploration, it's best to equip armor that can handle all types of damage. You'll also want to account for different kinds of resistances for planets with harsh conditions.

You can also pick a religion trait such as Raised Universal and a faction allegiance like United Colonies Native to gain their bonuses and exclusive dialogue.
