Universe variations in Starfield are random alternate introductions for New Game Plus. Here, you'll learn about the alternate New Game Plus variations and how to get different intros at the Lodge.
The ending of Starfield has your character stepping into the Unity and starting over in another universe. You can keep returning to the Unity every time, with each New Game Plus being a different universe. However, events may vary in other dimensions, meaning you might not see the same faces at Constellation when you visit the Lodge for the first time.
Gameplay-wise, the game will act as if you chose to skip the main story in New Game Plus. You'll always receive Constellation's Artifacts and the locations for the rest so you can go to the Unity again and leave that universe behind. These also don't appear to impact the ending, even in universes where Constellation seems to be gone.
This is a list of alternate intros we've currently seen at the Lodge. We're currently investigating more universe variations, but feel free to comment below if you discover more!
This is the most common universe you'll encounter in New Game Plus. It involves Sarah and the rest of Constellation, where they'll ask who you are. This seems to be the only intro where you can choose to repeat the main story, but you can skip it by revealing you're Starborn.
Main Quest List and Walkthrough
In this intro, you'll meet your other self already living in that universe. You'll have the option to recruit your alternate self as a companion but can't do the main story with them.
In this universe, Cora Coe appears to be wearing Starborn armor and is a Spacer leader. She believes you've done something to her father, Sam Coe. If you never let Sam die in any universe, you can let her know, and she'll give you the Artifacts and locations. Otherwise, you'll have to attack her for the Artifacts.
In another universe, you'll find children in the Lodge pretending to be members of Constellation. They'll recognize you as the Last Member of Constellation and give you the Artifacts and charts. However, it seems the inventory is bugged, meaning you may have to reload an older save.
Your self in this other universe has attacked Constellation, leaving its members dead and Sarah mortally wounded. You'll need to beat your evil self first to grab the Artifacts and locations to proceed with Among the Stars as usual.
In this universe, you, or rather a whole bunch of yous from multiple universes, run Constellation. Since they're all Starborn versions of you, they know your situation well and will hand over the Artifacts without question. This appears to be bugged since the inventory may be inaccessible.
In another universe, the Hunter greets you at the Lodge and claims to have killed all the Constellation members. Before he leaves, he'll hand over the Artifacts and charts and say that he can't wait to see what you do next.
Andreja isn't a member of Constellation in this universe and takes over it with other House Va'ruun zealots. Unless you have the Serpent's Embrace trait, you'll have no choice but to kill her for the Artifacts.
Walter holds the Artifacts and charts in this universe and will only give them to you if you give him 100,000 credits. If you have the Industrialist background, you can convince him to give it up for free. Otherwise, you'll have to kill him and his bodyguards if you don't want to pay.
Only Vasco will appear in the Lodge for this universe. It's revealed the Hunter has already killed everyone, leaving Vasco to pass on the Artifacts and their locations to you.
Your character will find a plant named Sarah Morgan in this universe. Although you believe you're in a universe where everyone is a plant, the truth is they're all retired from Constellation. Noel will appear and give you the Artifacts and locations so you can be on your way.
It seems whether or not you encounter a different intro is randomly decided every New Game Plus. Your decisions in the previous universe may not directly impact who you'll find at the Lodge, so you'll have to leave it to chance if you want to see a specific one.
One way of speeding up the process is to make a save right before Grav Jumping to the Unity. Assuming the new universe variation is decided every New Game Plus, reloading from the new Starborn Guardian won't change anything, but reloading before reaching it should allow you to reroll.
