The Health Bar is a component of the HUD in Starfield and it displays the player's HP. Check out this guide to learn more about the Health Bar, what the orange bar is, and more!
List of Contents

At the bottom right corner of your screen, you will see a white bar directly above the weapon icon. This bar dictates your player character's health. The white bar will decrease or increase depending on various factors.
All UI and Menu Icons Explained

The health bar will decrease when your player character takes some damage. Specifically, it will decrease with enemy attacks, environmental damage, afflictions, and even items. Since a lot of factors decrease the health bar, it is important to always be aware of its state as you play Starfield!
All Damage Types Explained

The easiest way to heal in Starfield is to use medicines such as a Med Pack. Do note that using a Medpack does not instantly fill up the health bar when consumed. It will slowly go up once you close the inventory. Also, Food and drinks can be consumed to increase your character's HP.
Aside from using consumables, you can heal your player character for free by sleeping on a bed. Going to a doctor to heal your wounds is also another way to replenish your character's health bar. However, you need to pay some Credits for this method!
When your player character receives environmental damage, an orange bar from the right side of the health bar will start to increase. Once the orange bar is present, you can only recover HP up until the white bar reaches the orange marker. With this, it is best to avoid environmental damage at all costs!
Suffering from Thermal damage is the easiest way to fill up the orange bar. Your player character will incur Thermal damage when exposed to extreme temperatures and is not properly equipped. With this, make sure to wear the correct spacesuit, helmet, and pack by checking their resistances!
All Environmental Damage Explained
A way to remove the orange bar is to retreat indoors. After entering an enclosed area, the orange bar will decrease after some time. The easiest way to remove it is to simply enter your ship!
