Crew Members Explained

Their Skills Benefit Ships and Outposts

Starfield - Crew Roster

Crew members provide useful skills to their assigned ships or outposts. Let's say you hired a crew that has the Shield Systems as one of the skills. Your ship will receive the perks of the Shield Systems skill when you assign that crew to your current ship.

The same goes for outpost-related skills. If you hire and assign a crew that has an outpost-related skill to one of your outposts, that outpost will receive the perks of the skill.

When you assign a crew member to a ship or outpost, their related skills will be highlighted. This is to indicate that the highlighted skills are being used in wherever they are assigned to.

Combat-Related Skills are an Exception

You won't gain the benefits of the combat skills your crew members have, as it only affects themselves. If a crew member has a Pistol Certification skill, it only affects that crew member.

The best thing to do is to equip crew members with the right weapons so they'll receive the proper benefits their skills provide.
