Oxygen (O2) in Starfield is vital to your survival in space and while out exploring the Settled Systems. Learn how to conserve oxygen, how to increase your O2 levels, and what consumes oxygen in this guide.

How to Conserve Oxygen

Use Your Boost Pack

Using your boost pack to jump and fly does not deplete oxygen. On the contrary, it gives you time to replenish your O2 levels as it consumes the boost stat instead.

How to Use Jetpack

Get the Extrovert or Introvert Traits

Conserve oxygen depending on whether or not you prefer adventuring with human companions. Note that you can only choose one or the other.

Starfield - Extrovert
Extrovert 		You're a people person. Exerting yourself uses less oxygen when adventuring with human companions. but more when adventuring alone. (Can't be combined with Introvert.)
Starfield - Introvert
Introvert 		You really need your alone time. Exerting yourself uses less oxygen when adventuring alone, but more when adventuring with other human companions, (Can't be combined with Extrovert.)

Oxygen levels can be increased temporarily by consuming certain food and drinks. You can craft research projects for food and aid or loot them while exploring.

Some traits give you an oxygen boost when certain conditions are met. However, note that traits always have a caveat to them so make sure to choose depending on your playstyle.

Rank Up the Fitness Skill

Oxygen levels are increased per rank of the Fitness Skill. You will have to complete rank challenges to unlock each oxygen buff.

What Consumes Oxygen

Strenuous Activities

Oxygen in Starfield works similarly to stamina in Skyrim. This means your character’s O2 levels decrease when you sprint, use the combat slide, and engage in physically strenuous activities.

Heavy Attacks

Oxygen is also consumed when delivering heavy punches and attacks. We recommend using your boost pack to distance yourself from enemies then switching to ballistic weapons when low on oxygen.
