Fuel acts as the indicator on how far you can travel between star systems in Starfield. Learn how to get more fuel and what happens when you run out of fuel!

Fuel Doesn't Run Out

Fuel doesn't run out when you're flying your ship in space. The fuel consumption shown when traveling to another star system is an indicator of how far you can jump to a star system. It costs less fuel if you travel to a nearby star system, but costs more to farther ones. Traveling to another planet within the same star system doesn't require fuel.

Consider adding and upgrading fuel tanks and grav drives in the shipbuilder to increase your jumping range.

Fuel is essential when it comes to jumping to and from systems as it directly impacts your Grav Drive. You can grav jump to nearby systems to get closer and reach your targeted star system.
