You can change your companions and crew in Starfield by talking to them and asking them to join you or leave you. Learn more on what dialogue choices to make and what the companion limit is!

Starfield - Ask Companion to Join Your Crew

You can add more companions to your party by asking them to join you. Simply find them in your ship and talk with them. The dialogue choice ''I could use you on my crew...'' will appear if you want to add them to your party.

Starfield - Ask Companion to Leave

Conversely, you can also ask your companions to leave your crew. You will need to first complete the Old Neighborhood main quest before unlocking this feature. When you do, you can speak with your companion and tell them ''It's time we went our separate ways.''

Starfield - One Companion Limit

You can only have one companion that will follow you around as you explore. If you ask another companion to follow you while the current companion is active, they will be dismissed and replaced by the other one automatically.
