⚫︎ Larian Studios, the team behind Divinity: Original Sin, unveiled their latest project, Baldur’s Gate 3, at Google’s first Stadia Connect event. This new entry continues BioWare’s classic Baldur’s Gate series, which began in 1998 with the original game and was followed by Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn in 2000.

⚫︎ One year after its announcement, Baldur's Gate 3 has officially launched in early access on Steam, GOG, and Google Stadia. The release follows multiple delays, including a previous target date of September 30, and an earlier mid-2020 projection from developer Larian Studios.
This early-access build of the game only included the game’s first act, a customizable player character, and five playable origin characters, including Astartion, Gale, Lae’zel, Shadowheart, and Wyll.

⚫︎ Baldur’s Gate 3 is released for the PC through Steam and GOG to much anticipation. This full version of the game includes all three of the game’s acts, an expanded storyline, all available origin characters, balance tweaks and changes, and improved cinematic performance. The game then became one of Steam’s most-played and top-selling games of all time shortly after release.

⚫︎ At this year’s GDC panel, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke announced that the studio will be stepping away from the Dungeons & Dragons IP and shifting focus to new projects after Baldur’s Gate 3. Vincke assured fans that Baldur’s Gate 3 will continue to receive updates and fixes before the team fully transitions to their next venture.

⚫︎ In an interview with IGN, Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke shared his perspective on AI in game development, calling it a useful tool but emphasizing its limitations. Vincke stated he's open to using AI where it can assist but asserted, “AI could never replace the creative side of things, and I can put my money where my mouth is.”
