⚫︎ Baldur’s Gate 3 nearly had a lot more scat humor, according to junior writer Martin Docherty. In a recent stream, Docherty revealed that studio head Swen Vincke had to step in and tell the team to tone down the poop-based insults for the bard’s iconic Vicious Mockery cantrip.

August 14

⚫︎ Baldur's Gate 3 Neil Newbon is open to reprising his role as Astarion, but does not want to play characters who are just like him, stating that he wants to "stretch" himself when it comes to the roles he plays, and that he does not want to be typecast as someone like Astarion forever.

August 6

⚫︎ Baldur’s Gate 3 performance director Aliona Baranova believes Hollywood overlooks game actors despite their training and strong fanbases. She notes that many are formally trained and have strong fan followings, but are often overlooked in film and TV.

⚫︎ Two years after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vinke has teased the studio’s next project, asking fans to be patient. In a post on X celebrating the anniversary, Vinke said BG3 was a “life-changing” experience and hinted that it paved the way for Larian’s “next crazy thing.”

August 5

⚫︎ Larian commemorates Baldur’s Gate 3’s two-year anniversary by sharing quirky global statistics, from defeating bosses while drunk to obscure Honour Mode runs. One stat stands out above the rest: out of 265 million mod downloads, over 250,000 players chose to give the skeletal NPC Withers a rather generous makeover via the infamous “Withers Big Naturals” mod.

July 31

⚫︎ Samantha Béart, the voice behind Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3, recently addressed what they believe is the biggest misconception about the character. Speaking to TheGamer, Béart explained that many fans view Karlach as a cheerful, upbeat presence, but there's much more beneath the surface.

That she is a really sweet, nice, happy-go-lucky person, Béart said. I think she was a very different person in hell... I imagined being locked in a supermax prison, with no hope of getting out and doing all sorts of horrible gang stuff to survive. Béart emphasized that Karlach’s positive outlook reflects a conscious decision to leave behind the harsh survival instincts she developed in the hells, choosing instead to forge a new path and identity in the material world.

July 2

⚫︎ Several key cast members from Baldur’s Gate 3 have shared that the game’s massive success hasn’t translated into more job opportunities. Speaking at Heroes Dutch Comic Con, Samantha Béart (Karlach), Theo Solomon (Wyll), and Dave Jones (Halsin) reflected on how the hit RPG has affected their careers.

While they expressed gratitude for the fan response and convention experiences, they noted that industry recognition hasn’t followed. “There isn’t much sway held by past success,” Béart remarked, despite ongoing enthusiasm from fans. Solomon added, “We had no idea this game was going to blow up in this kind of way,” highlighting the unexpected impact on their public visibility—but not on casting calls.

May 21

⚫︎ Baldur’s Gate 3 publishing director Michael Douse has labelled recent comments by Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford as “gross,” following Pitchford’s defense of a potential $80 price tag for Borderlands 4. Pitchford had stated that “real fans will find a way” to afford the game, prompting backlash online.

Responding via social media, Douse acknowledged that inflation can justify price increases but criticised Pitchford’s phrasing, saying it implied the game should take priority over basic living costs amid an ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
