As Astrophysics is a higher-tier Expert skill, it is unlocked by spending a total of 8 skill points in the Science skill tree before it can be learned.

| 1 | Spend a total of 8 Skill Points in the Science tree. | You can scan the moons of your current planet. You have a 10% chance to discover a trait when scanning. |
| 2 | Scan 10 unique planets or moons | You can scan any planet or moon in this system. You have a 20% chance to discover a trait when scanning. |
| 3 | Scan 25 unique planets or moons | You can scan any planet or moon within 16 Light Years. You have a 30% chance to discover a trait when scanning. |
| 4 | Scan 50 unique planets or moons | You can scan any planet or moon within 30 Light Years. You have a 50% chance to discover a trait when scanning. |
Scan New Plants or Moons to Complete the Challenge
This challenge's unique planets or moons refer to any planets or moons you have yet to scan.
You must be orbiting a planet or moon to scan it. Once you get higher ranks of Astrophysics you'll be able to scan nearby distant planets and moons. The last challenge gets easier as you can start scanning planets and moons from up to 16 light-years away!
