Chemistry is an Expert Science skill that allows for creating improved chems in Starfield. Read on to learn the effects of the Chemistry skill, how to unlock and rank up the Chemistry skill, and the backgrounds that know it.

As Chemistry is a higher-tier Expert skill, it is unlocked by spending a total of 8 skill points in the Science skill tree before it can be learned.
There are no backgrounds that start with the Chemistry skill.

Crafting any chem from the Pharmaceutical Lab will count towards completing the rank challenge for Chemistry.
Most of the lowest tier chems are easy to craft as they require only two simple ingredients that can be produced from a Greenhouse or Animal Husbandry Facility. The easier chems to craft are Antibiotics, Bandages, Heal Paste, Immobilizer or Injector. What you craft would largely depend on what farmable organic materials are available in your outposts.
Chem ingredients can also be purchased from general goods vendors.
Most organic resources required for crafting chems from the Pharmaceutical Lab can be farmed from your outposts by building Greenhouses and Animal Husbandry Facilities.
To start raising flora or domesticating fauna, you need to have at least one rank of the Botany or Zoology skill, respectively. The outpost modules for these skills can also only be built on planets with local fauna or flora species you have scanned to 100% completion.
