Wounding is one of the main weapon mechanics introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds and is essential for mastering your weapon and defeating monsters more easily. Attacking a specific monster part will eventually inflict a wound on it, allowing you to deal more damage on that wounded part and destroy it with your Focus Strike to stun, knock down, or stagger the monster.
Focus Mode is a new key weapon mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds. This allows you to enter an aiming state that activates a crosshair to clearly identify open wounds and execute special moves called Focus Strikes.
Focus Strike is a new move that allows you to instantly break open wounds on hit, dealing more damage on that specific part for the entire duration. Doing so will make you automatically perform a follow-up attack that can destroy more open wounds and possibly stagger or knock down the monster.
How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you are now able to equip a second weapon by heading inside a tent and equipping the weapon of your choice on the slot below your main weapon. Once you have your second weapon equipped, you can now switch your weapons anytime during your hunts, allowing you to adjust your playstyle on the fly depending on which monster you are hunting.
Keep in mind that switching weapons can only be done while on your Seikret mount so make sure to call it when you plan on changing your weapon mid-hunt.
How to Change and Switch Weapons
In Monster Hunter Wilds, the new Offset Attacks can parry monster attacks and stagger them for a brief duration if timed correctly. Although not every weapon has them, these special attacks are extremely useful for your hunts are they offer another way of dealing with attacks and provide you with better openings for big moves.
All Offset Attacks and How to Use
With the return of Perfect Guard, they added a new mechanic tied to it called Power Clash where you enter a clashing state with the monster and knock them down once successful. This mechanic works similiar to Mounting where the requirement to perform a Power Clash will increase the more you use it.

Switch Skills from Monster Hunter Rise are no longer available in Monster Hunter Wilds. In the previous game, switch skills helped determine your weapon's playstyle by allowing you to switch to another set of skills that you can use.
Although switch skills were removed, the ability to bring a secondary weapon and switch between them compensated for this as it allows you to change your playstyle on the go.

Wirebugs were also removed in Monster Hunter Wilds. These were used for executing Switch Skills, performing mid-air dodges, and traversing difficult areas.
In exchange, they returned the Slinger tool which can pick up items from afar and fire Slinger ammo.

The Clutch Claw is not returning in Monster Hunter Wilds as well. This was used for grappling on to monster parts, creating weak spots, leading monsters into walls and traps, and performing Clutch Claw weapon combos.
Even though they did not return, the new Focus Strikes and Wounding mechanics compensated for this with the various moves you can pull off to stagger or stun the monster.
