Sharpness Applies a Damage Multiplier to Weapon

Sharpness is a stat value that is attached to each individual weapon and each weapon have different sharpness values than every other weapon in the game. The Sharpness stat will modify the total value of your weapon's damage output when hitting them while having that specific sharpness level.

Take note that sharpness gets reduced per attack so be sure to always monitor your sharpness level when playing melee weapons to avoid losing damage mid-hunt.

The sharpness damager multiplier in Monster Hunter Wilds has not changed from Rise and World. The sharper the weapon is, the more damage it can dish out, so it is best to sharpen your weapon as soon as you can to not miss out on dealing as much hurt as possible!

Prevents or Causes Weapon Attack to Bounce

Another metric of the Sharpness is its ability to allow your weapon to pierce through monster hides. The sharper your weapon, the more it can pierce or slash enemy monsters easily. The opposite is also true where having a dull weapon can cause your weapons to bounce back after hitting an enemy monster.

How to Increase Sharpness

Equip Weapons With Better Sharpness Levels

The most natural and best way to increase your weapon's sharpness is to equip a weapon with a naturally high sharpness level. As all weapon have their own sharpness stat, be sure to also consider what the sharpness level of your chosen weapon will be before crafting it.

Use Whetstones to Restore Lost Sharpness

Whetstone is an item you can use during hunts to restore lost sharpness during a hunt. It's best to use the Whetstone when a monster has disengaged against the hunter or while riding the Seikret to keep your hunter's mobility up while sharpening your weapon. You can also use the Whetfish Fin and Whetfish Fin+ to sharpen your weapons faster!

How to Sharpen Weapons

Cancel Sharpening and Retain Its Effects

When you sharpen your weapon, you can roll or dodge to cancel its animation all while retaining the effects! This feature wasn't available in the previous installments, making a great addition!

Sharpen While Riding a Seikret

As mentioned above, you could also ride your Seikret to safely sharpen your weapon! This is extremely useful especially when you're being chased by a monster or when they move to a new area.

There are also multiple sharpness-related skills that can allow your weapon to have a higher sharpness value or avoid losing sharpness during hunts. You have a lot of options, so chose wisely!

Pair Master's Touch With High Crit Hit Rate

If you have a high critical hit rate, getting Master's Touch would greatly improve your build. This is thanks to the fact that the skill prevents your weapon from losing sharpness when you deal critical hits! As a result of this build, you would only have to sharpen your weapon a few times!

Note that Master's Touch won't work as efficiently if you don't have high critical hit rate.

Protective Polish is a great skill to have! After sharpening your weapon, you can go all out as its sharpness won't decrease for a certain amount of time!
