After defeating Nerscylla in Chapter 2, Hopes of Home, it will start to randomly appear in Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, Ruins of Wyveria, and Wounded Hollow on Low and High Rank. You're able to hunt it in Low and High Rank Field Surveys or Investigations by then.
Nerscylla Monster Fight Tips |
---|
|
Nerscylla's hard, orange claws deflect attacks, making it difficult to deal damage through its front. If you're using Sever weapons, it's best if you aim for its belly for maximum damage output. If you're using Shot weapons, aim for the big purple stinger on its back.
For Blunt weapon users, the head is the best place to aim for, which is difficult due to Nerscylla's claws being in the way. The upside to this is that blunt weapons deal the most damage to the claws among any other weapon type, making them viable to break Nerscylla's left claw. Once broken, the head is easier to access!
Blunt, Sever, and Shot: Weapon Damage Types Explained
After Nerscylla does its Pincer Attack, its pincers can become a Weak Spot. When this spot glows red in Focus Mode, use Focus Strike on it to stagger Nerscylla and deal extra damage.
How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike
You'll usually find Nerscylla wearing a mantle on its back. This is actually Gypceros hide. As Gypceroses are resistant to Thunder attacks and susceptible to Fire attacks, the mantle applies the same effects to Nerscylla.
Once the mantle is broken, Nerscylla will be more susceptible to Thunder attacks and more resistant to Fire attacks.
How Does Weapon Elemental Damage Work?
Staggering Nerscylla over webbing will cause it to get stuck in the webbing. Break its wounds in order to flinch it into getting trapped. Using Flash Pods while Nerscylla is hanging upside-down from the ceiling can also topple it into the webbed floor.
When under webbed ceiling, Nerscylla can latch on to it and hang upside down, attacking from above. You can use your Slinger to bring it back down faster and topple it.
You can also flinch Nerscylla midswing to either topple it or just interrupt its Swing Attack. You can use your Slinger Ammo, or have your Palico do it for you if they can get the timing just right. Do note that Flash Pods may not topple Nerscylla during this maneuver, but it will stop its swing and blind it.
While fighting Nerscylla, you may get attacked by its hatchlings. Using a Flash Pod on the group of hatchlings will immobilize them long enough for you to deal significant damage to Nerscylla. You can also use this opportunity to dispose of the hatchlings yourself without hassle.
Flash Pod Location: How to Get and Uses
Nerscylla can inflict numerous ailments such as Poison, Sleep, and Webbed. If you don't have the Armor Skills to combat these ailments, don't forget to bring Antidotes, Energy Drinks, and Cleansers. Antidotes cure Poison, Energy Drinks cure Sleep, and Cleansers cure Webbed.
Attack | Description |
---|---|
Body Smash | When you see Nerscylla back up and rear its body up, it's about to smash its whole body unto you. Dodge outwards, away from the monster, as soon as you see it rear up. |
Pincer Attack | Nerscylla can extend its fangs into lengthy pincers and attempt to catch you in between them to Poison you. While the reach for this attack is quite far, the wind up for it takes a while. This gives you time to run or dodge away from this attack. Once you evade the attack, you can actually Focus Strike its pincers. |
Underground Attack | On webbing, Nerscylla can tunnel underground and attempt to attack you with its pincers before coming back up. Nerscylla will follow underneath you and only attempt to attack once you've stood still long enough. Stay still then dodge right before its pincers hit you. |
Web Shooting | Being at a distance from Nerscylla can prompt it to aim its abdomen at you, before shooting three web projectiles at your direction. Nerscylla can do this twice in a row. Dodge or run away outwards from this attack to avoid getting Webbed. |
Dash Attack | While in an angered state, Nerscylla can dash its whole body towards you. You'll know this attack is coming when the monster is rearing back then shoots a string of web at your direction. Dodge sideways out of this attack once you see it rear back. Be careful as this can be done multiple times in succession. Nerscylla may also do this from a webbed ceiling. |
Swing Attack | Nerscylla can swing from the ceiling while jutting out its back stingers in an attempt to poison you. Dodge sideways from this attack. Using your Slinger, you can also interrupt Nerscylla mid-swing to stagger it. |
Stinger Stab | Nerscylla can jab its stinger at you to inflict Sleep. The wind up for this is similar to its Web Shooting attack, although it doesn't flail its claws when it wants to stab you. Dodge sideways from its stinger to avoid getting inflicted by Sleep. |
Leap | Nerscylla will lightly shake its abdomen before leaping towards your direction. Run to the side as soon as you see the little abdomen shake or time your dodge right before the leap hits you. |
Gliding Web Shot | Nerscylla will glide up before shooting one-to-three web projectiles towards you. Dodge sideways before the projectile hits you to avoid getting Webbed. |
Grab Attack | Nerscylla will flail its claws about before attempting to attack you like it's about to grab you. Dodge towards the monster to avoid getting hit. |
Claw Swipe | Nerscylla will raise one of its claws before taking a swipe at you. Dodge forwards or backwards before the swipe hits you. |
