How to Make a Good Build
This is a guide to making good builds in Monster Hunter Wilds. Read to learn how to make a build and identify core concepts to create your build.

How to Make a Good Build

Choose a Weapon With Your Ideal Skill

Weapons and armors skills are now separate in Monster Hunter Wilds. With this change, you'll want to choose a weapon that will be able to use the skills you want from the weapon itself. If you're a Long Sword player for example, you may want a Critical Draw for strong Iai counters then partner it with a Quick Sheathe for a smooth playstyle.

Weapon choice is extremely important for this matter as the attached skill to the weapon can change your playstyle completely.

Maximize Damage Skills

You may want several comfort skills to gain a lot of extra benefits inside and outside hunts such as Botanist's extra materials or an Evade Window to keep you safer. But at the end of the day, you'll need to hit a monster to kill it.

Be sure to not neglect damaging skills to improve your hunting speed, remember that the faster you kill a monster, the less risk you'll face in a hunt overall.

Identify a Core Focus of the Build

The Core focus of the build is what the build is supposed to do. It may be a gathering focused build that maximizes your harvest when roaming the biomes. It may be a build that focuses on dodging with Constitution and Evade Window.

Be sure to choose what you want your build to do then choose the right armor sets and decoration to fill up the niche your build is trying to do.

Always Take Decoration Slots in Mind

Armor pieces may come with decoration slots with them. Additionally, Alpha and Beta armor can also be important, as the former will have fewer decoration slots but more skills attached to them while the latter will have fewer skills but more decoration slots.

Learn which skills you'll want to have on your build choose the right armor pieces and use decorations to fill in the missing pieces of your build.

Tips to Making a Good Build

Choose a Few Sets of Skills and Build Around It

One of the best approaches to building is choosing a specific skill or group of skills and building around it. If you want to make a blast centric build then you'll definitely want to include Blast Attack as one of its core skills. Now you can decide which weapons have the Blast ailment and then choose decorations and armor pieces that will complement the status attack.

Learn Your Weapon Type's Damage Specialty

Each weapon has its own capabilities and specialties. A Great Sword, for example, focuses on big single hits rather than multiple hits which makes it an ideal weapon for big raw damage. This makes elemental and status skills weak for the weapon and may not be ideal choices even if you have a decent armor set focused on the said elemental skills.

Weapon Types Guide

Choose Skills That Synergize With Your Weapon's Gimmick

Each weapon works differently than the other. A Gunlance can tank strong monster hits while laying down the hurt with both lance hits and its shelling attacks.

This makes the Gunlance a strong guarding weapon with the ability to use shells so skills that can synergize with guard skill and shelling like the Artillery skills can work wonders for builds using these weapons.

Never Neglect Group Skills and Set Skills

Set Bonus Skills.png

It's easy to avoid building around Group Skills and Set Bonus Skills due to the requirement of equipping a specific number of armor pieces belonging to that set. However, some Group Skills and Set Skills can become game-changers and can be worth building your character around these skills.

Always consider if the Group Skill or Set skill may be an effect you'll want for your weapon then consider getting multiple armor pieces from that set.
