As Rompopolo can inflict Poison, it's recommended to bring items such as Antidotes and Herbal Medicines alongside your healing and support items. You can also utilize Flash Pods, Shock Traps, and Pitfall Traps to give yourself damage windows during the hunt.

Rompopolo does most of its attacks utilizing its gas sacs. The ones on its head contain its poison, while the ones on the rest of its back and tail are used to cause the gas explosion attacks. Depending which gas sacs you deflate, you can temporarily disable either or both of its poison and explosion attacks.
Rompopolo does three attacks where it utilizes its tongue to spray poison at you. During these attacks, its tongue can become a Weak Point. When its tongue glows red in Focus Mode, use Focus Strike on it to stagger Rompopolo and deal extra damage!
How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike
Rompopolo's back is breakable, but also difficult to hit. It's also where its hardest-to-reach gas sacs are. Utilize Pitfall Traps in order to get decent hits on its back, especially if you're a Melee Weapon user.
Oilsilt Spouts are craters that emit combustible gas in the Oilwell Basin. They are strewn about in areas where Rompopolo resides. Igniting Oilsilt Spouts with combustible objects, such as Torch Pod Slinger ammo, will cause an explosion that can damage nearby monsters.
Lure Rompopolo near Oilsilt Spouts before igniting them to deal significant damage to the monster!
Rompopolo can inflict Poison on you. It's recommended to stock up on Antidotes or Herbal Medicines before the hunt, so you can remove the poison ailment when needed.
Moves labeled with a sword icon indicate that you can counter them with an Offset Attack.
| Attack | Description |
|---|---|
| Multi Charged Oil Explosions | Rompopolo will sit on its tail to intensely charge up multiple Charged Oil Explosions around the nearby area. Immediately move away from any parts of the ground that's bubbling with gas to avoid getting damaged. |
| Charged Oil Explosion | Often as a follow-up to a normal Oil Explosion, Rompopolo will charge up the gas within it to expel a more powerful explosion. You can tell it's coming by Rompopolo's charge up and the bigger radius of gas appearing on the floor. Run or dodge away as soon as you can see any of these signs. |
| Oil Explosion | Staying at a distance from Rompopolo will prompt it to inject its tail into the oil, causing an explosion of gas beneath your feet. Quickly dodge away as soon as you can see the gas appearing beneath you. When Rompopolo is angered, these explosions may take on a horizontal length. Dodge forwards or backward from this version of the attack. |
| Poison Swipes |
Rompopolo will release poison gas from its mouth and swipe its head left to right in an attempt to poison you. Dodge left or right from this attack depending on what direction it's swiping towards. |
| Forward Lunge |
Rompopolo can lunge at you, signified by it raising its arms before swinging them down towards you. Dodge inwards once you see it's arms raised. |
| Poison Spray | Within a certain distance, Rompopolo will spray a poison cloud towards you. You'll be able to anticipate it when you see Rompopolo charging up poison in its mouth. Dodge sideways from this attack to avoid getting poisoned. |
| Tail Swipes |
Rompopolo will wag its tail before either swiping it sideways or swinging it around itself. Dodge inwards if you're close to it or outwards if you're far enough from it. |
| Poison Mist | Rompopolo will twist its head up before inhaling. It will then exhale a wide mist of poison on the ground towards you. Run or dodge sideways from this mist to avoid getting poisoned. |
| Tail Swings | Rompopolo will look behind itself and lightly wag its tail before swinging it side-to-side. Dodge inwards or outwards from this attack. |
| Arm Attacks |
Rompopolo will swing its sharp arms at you while taking steps forward. Dodge sideways from this attack. |
| Claw Swipe | Rompopolo will raise one of its arms before swiping it down to its side. Dodge away right before it swipes its arm down. |
