Narrowly evading a monster's attack while your weapon is drawn grants special sharpness.

With Bladescale Honing, evading at the right time grants some special sharpness that doesn't reduce your weapon's regular sharpness and changes your Sharpness damage modifier to 1.4x.

The values in the table above were tested on the Training Area target dummy while using the Impudent Cheda. The basic Charged Slash combo was performed without holding down the charge button. The damage numbers were then recorded and compared.

The amount of hits you can perform with the special sharpness varies per weapon. Fast weapons like the Sword and Shield and Dual Blades get around six full hits of sharpness, while slower weapons like the Great Sword and the Hammer get around four full hits of sharpness.

Take note that for weapons like the Dual Blades, multi-hit attacks that come from one button input counts as one hit.

Special Sharpness Not Affected by Skills

The special sharpness given by Bladescale Honing is always fixed and not affected by sharpness skills like Razor Sharp or Master's Touch.

Evasion Does Not Have to be Perfect

The evade doesn't have to be perfect either, as getting hit can trigger the skill. It also doesn't seem possible to stack or refresh Bladescale Honing while it's active, so you have to deplete it first before it can activate again.
