The Iron Katana II is the weapon of choice here mostly because of its access to Critical Draw Lv. 2. With the 1 slot present in the weapon, we can gem in a Draw Jewel [1] to increase its level to 3 providing a whopping +100% Affinity on draw attacks which works on sheathe attacks!

Focus Lv. 2

Bone Shotel III offers the player a very good alternative to the Iron Katana II. This weapon has a higher base damage along with the skills Attack Boost and Focus.

However, Attack Boost is a hard skill to focus on at this point of the game, and Focus can be swapped out for a another skill that fits the Long Sword better. Additionally, its low sharpness makes the weapon lose damage relatively quick.

Possessing the highest attack power among all the rarity 4 Long Swords, the Dosha Fatecleaver II is a good alternative pick. This high damage is further boosted by its skill Punishing Draw, making this Long Sword one of the more attractive options.

Additionally, this Long Sword is unique as it offers defense. The main downside of this weapon is the negative affinity and its relatively low sharpness. Still, this weapon is a very good alternative and the player is free to choose so.

G. Arkveld Helm G. Arkveld Helm
Flayer Lv. 1

• Grants the Set Bonus Decimator.

This armor piece grants Decimator which restores a moderate amount of health when destroying a wound on a large monster. This fits in perfectly with the build specialty, ultimately leaving the decision to the player preference.

Skill Summary

Weakness Exploit 3 Critical Draw 3
Quick Sheathe 2 Evade Window 2
Critical Draw 2 Intimidator 1
Ice Resistance 1 Blight Resistance 1

This build focuses on maximizing the Long Sword's benefit on attacking monster wounds. In combat, Long Sword players benefit from destroying monster wounds as they gain a level in Spirit Gauge every time they do so.

This is where Weakness Exploit enters. This skill increases the affinity of attacks that hit weakpoints, with an additional bonus affinity to monster wounds. This perfectly synergizes with Critical Draw on the weapon which further increases the Long Sword's affinity.

Even though Flayer makes it easier to wound monsters, it was left at 1 due to the fact that wounding monsters are relatively easy with the Long Sword. Evade Window is inserted in the build to extend the I-Frames on Iai Slash and Iai Spirit Slash.

Quick Sheathe is a staple in these Long Sword builds as they enable the player to use Special Sheathe quickly. Maximize monster wounds with this build as you dish out damage while levelling up the Spirit Gauge!

• Light Bowguns gives the player access to supporting ammo types, further increasing the effectivity of the Long Sword.

• The Buster Sword offers Critical Draw which compliments the armor skills very well.
• If the player finds himself in a situation where the monster is staggered and he has no Spirit Gauge, a TCS may serve as a substitute.

For the second build, we ultimately went with the Quematrice Lima II for the increase in raw damage mostly because Iron Katana II is ways off for now. It has access to Punishing Draw Lv. 2 which adds stun and flat attack to sheathing moves of the Long Sword.

Uth Khlunda offers the highest attack potential for Long Swords at this point of the game- offering the player an attack oriented playstyle if they so choose. Uth Khlunda also comes with Power Prolonger, giving the player more time to use their Spirit Gauge.

However, Power Prolonger is not essential to the Long Sword. More often than not, the player has enough time to use the Spirit Gauge without the assistance of Power Prolonger.

The maindownside of Uth Khlunda is its low sharpness. This forces the player to stay out of the battle and sharpen the weapon first. Another is its Elemental Damage, as Long Swords cannot take full advatange of this mechanic.

Critical Eye Lv. 1

Hope Edge III offers the player a balanced weapon. It has damage that sits at the middle of the pack with a good amount of green sharpness. With skills like Speed Sharpening and Critical Eye, this weapon may be considered as a comfortable alternative among others.

The main drawback of this weapon is that it excels at nothing. Although good skills, Speed Sharpening and Critical Eye can be swapped for other skills that other Long Swords have.

Punishing Draw 2 Ice Resistance 2
Evade Window 3 Quick Sheathe 3

This build focuses on maximizing the Long Sword's Special Sheathe. With Quick Sheathe and Punishing Draw working together, players will dish out more damage quicker. Combine this with stun potential, the player can expect to topple the monster and deal more damage.

Quick Sheathe also makes the hunter to execute Iai Slash and Iai Spirit Slash faster, giving players more time to react and counterattack. Evade Window perfectly synergizes with this playstyle in mind as this skill increases the I-Frames that Iai Slash and Iai Spirit Slash provides.

The main downside of this weapon is its low sharpness. Low sharpness may lead to less DPS in the long run as you will have to sharpen the weapon from time to time.

Additionally, Quick Sheathe makes it easier to use the Long Sword's Special Sheathe, giving players a faster time to use it for an attack. Recovery Up is also included in the build to give players more headroom as they encounter new monsters for the first time.
