Essential Items are various tools that help Hunters out during hunts. Each Essential Item helps hunters in different ways, such as for scouting, setting up camps, and even improving ammo.
Essential Items can be used an unlimited number of times, but some essential Items have a cooldown before they can be used again.

Hunting Items are consumable items that are mostly used before or during a Hunt.

Appraisal Items are Items that can be appraised to become Decorations.
Appraisal Items can be obtained as Quest Rewards, or through Field Investigations.

You can use the map to find items on nearby areas. The items are shown with an icon and hovering over it shows the item's name and effect. You can set the item as the waypoint to create a glowing trail that leads directly to it. Some crafting materials, such as bones and ores, can be acquired this way!
Like with other Monster Hunter games, you can purchase items from vendors. Each vendor has their list of offered items. Check out the link below to see the location of each vendor and what their offered items are!
Monsters may drop items that you can use as equipmental materials. After defeating a monster, press the Carving button to carve materials from it. You will also obtain numerous materials from quest rewards if you went for a monster tied to a quest!
Several Items can be obtained by Trading with NPCs from different Areas.
Item Trading can first be encounterd upon completing the Main Mission: The Eye of the Storm and reaching Kunafa, the Windsong Village.

Items can also be obtained by assigning NPCs to retrieveve Materials, which allows you to passively farm items.
Unlock Murtabak by completing Beware the Gypceros, and unlock subsequent Gatherers by completing their respective missions.

A variety of items can also be obtained by requesting from the Support Ship.
Requesting Materials from the Support Ship requires Guild Points, but can come in handy when it comes to securing a variety of helpful items.
