Weapon Skill Freedom ↔ Armor Skill Freedom
Rarity 7-8 RNG Talismans Rarity 6 RNG Talismans Rarity 5 RNG Talismans

From observation, higher rarites have stronger Weapon Skills, leading to more flexible Weapon decoration placement, but more restrictive Armor slots. Rarity 8 RNG talismans can have level 3 weapon skills, but Rarity 5 RNG talismans can have a ③ slot while maintaining a strong Armor Skill.

Rarity 8 giving access to strong Sharpness maintenance will make it a good option for sustaining DPS (esp. for low Sharpness, high raw/affinity Artian Weapons). Still, there's some flexibility and comfort to be offered lower at rarity RNG talismans, notably Rarity 5 and 6, since they have access to larger decoration slots.

DPS:

Agitator Icon Agitator Lv. 1

Utility
Constitution Icon Constitution Lv. 4 (DB/Bow/Ham.)

Skills with weapon types in red marks are good suggestions for those weapon types.

The best RNG talismans (also known as RNG charms) for Rarity 8 are talismans with ①W-①A-①A slots. For Rarity 7, the best ones have a ①-①-0 or a ②-0-0 slot.

RNG Talismans in this range are leaned towards better slot economy for Weapon Skills as evidenced by the possiblity of Lvl. 3 skills in the 1st innate slot and a possible 1 ① Weapon decoration slot.

Decoration slots are lower level and more spread out compared to lower rarities. A ③ slot can appear for Rarity 7, but the skills are more restrictive. Rarity 8 gives up higher level slots, meaning it maxes out with a single 1-slot weapon decoration and two 1-slot armor decorations. This means armor skills like Agitator are limited to Lvl. 1.

Best Rarity 6 RNG Talisman Combinations

Slots Rarity 6: ②-①-0
Talisman Skill 1 Any one of the ff.
DPS: Utility:
Guard Icon Guard Lv. 2 (Lance)
Load Shells Icon Load Shells Lv. 2 (GL/CB)

Talisman Skill 2 Any one of the ff.
DPS:

Agitator Icon Agitator Lv. 1
Counterstrike Icon Counterstrike Lv. 2 (GS/Ham./Swax)

Utility:
Earplugs Icon Earplugs Lv. 2
Stamina Surge Icon Stamina Surge Lv. 2 (Bow/Ham.)

Skills with weapon types in red marks are good suggestions for those weapon types.

Rarity 6 talismans better weapon skill levels over Rarity 5 talismans. Armor decoration slots will noticeably be limited to a 2-slot and an extra 1-slot, however, so you'll still want to keep a lookout for Rarity 5 talismans if you need a 3-slot talisman.

In general these will offer Level 2 weapon skills while being able to hold max levels of 2-slot armor skills like Counterstrike and Maximum Might. This makes them strictly better than their equivalent talismans, Counter Charm III and Mighty Jewel III.

Best Rarity 5 RNG Talisman Combinations

Slots Rarity 5: ③-0-0
Talisman Skill 1 Any one of the ff.
DPS: Utility:
Guard Up Icon Guard Up Lv. 1
Talisman Skill 2 Any one of the ff.
DPS:
Burst Icon Burst Lv. 1
Agitator Icon Agitator Lv. 1

Utility
Constitution Icon Constitution Lv. 4 (DB/Bow/Ham.)

Rarity 5 RNG Talismans can also already be stronger talismans than crafted ones, notably talismans with an available ③ slot. Usually, these are already direct upgrades to existing meta craftable charms such as Chain Charm II, Exploiter Charm II, and Challenger Charm II

For example, a Rarity 5 Charm with innate Agitator Lvl. 1, a ③ slot, and a random innate weapon skill will already be better than Challenger Charm II since you only need to fill in the deco slot with a Challenger Jewel to match it with Agitator Lvl. 2.

Burst is also a good substitute skill for Agitator.

Above are skill combination recommendations for each weapon type. It's best to pick talismans that have a high weapon skill level, as these can be better than the 3-slot Weapon Decorations. Generally, getting Attack Boost 4 by adding an Attack Jewel 1 is a good damage increase for any weapon type.

Normal Shots ImageNormal Shots Paralysis Attack ImageParalysis Attack Piercing Shots ImagePiercing Shots
Protective Polish ImageProtective Polish Rapid Fire Up ImageRapid Fire Up Sleep Attack ImageSleep Attack
Spread/Power Shots ImageSpread/Power Shots

Critical Boost is excluded as it cannot appear with an armor skill.

It is best to prioritize weapon skills that do not have an equivalent decoration that combos with another skill. For example, Razor Sharp can be a good skill, but should be avoided if you can slot in a Rzr Sharp/Handicraft Jwl 3 since this provides two good skills on its own. Guard has decoration combos with other skills, but none with its level 3 version, so a talisman can be considered if you want to be efficient in maximizing the Guard skill.

Pair with Good Armor Skills

Agitator is almost always a good armor skill to have since it's already an abundant raw damage skill on highly valuable armor sets like Numinous (Zoh Shia) and G. Fulgur (Guardian Fulgur Anjanath).

If you're looking for a substitute to Agitator, Burst is a good option. Burst Lv. 1 can be enough as a low-floor, high gain and high ceiling raw damage skill that's a good all-around damage skill for all weapons.

Above are the best talismans you can craft at the Smithy. These talismans are available by the end of the main story and are often used for endgame builds. Unlike RNG Talismans, they do not have slots. They, however, are easily more accessible than RNG talismans.

The example above assumes you cannot equip a Rzr Sharp/Handicraft Jwl 3.

The biggest benefit of RNG Talismans is that they take the load off your weapon/armor slots and add additional flexible skills that can either increase your overall DPS or comfort.

In the table above as an example, though you lose out on 1 level of Agitator, you will still get most of your damage out of having Razor Sharp 3 which has a 50% chance of preventing Sharpness loss. Maintaining Sharpness is an important part of keeping DPS since it multiplies damage, and White Sharpness offers the highest so far.

Appraised talismans can be better compared to craftable talismans due to allowing more weapon skills. However, the older talismans can hold their own if your build requires high-value armor skills like Agitator, Burst, or even Weakness Exploit.

Craftable Talismans at the Smithy

Crafting Talismans at the Smithy

Talismans are crafted at the Smithy just like Weapons and Armor. Find Gemma at the Smithy in a base (or her and the Legend smithy at the Grand Hub).

You will need to craft the base version of the Talismans first to upgrade them to higher levels. Make sure to keep note and wishlist the items you need for a choice talisman!

Appraised Talismans from Glowing Stones

Glowing Stones are endgame items that are given and appraised at the end of a 9 Star Tempered Monster Hunter. You do not have access to these until you reach Hunter Rank 100 (HR 100) where you can start 9 Star Investigations.

Harder monsters give more Glowing Stones per stack. If you want to farm comfortably, you'll want to go after easier monsters first such as 9 Star Tempered Rey Dau.
