This is a guide to knowing whether you should capture or kill a monster in Monster Hunter Wilds. Read on to know the benefits of capturing as well as killing monsters and the best one to do in each scenario.
List of Contents

While capturing monsters has always been the faster choice than slaying monsters, the better method in Monster Hunter Wilds depends on which monster part reward you're after.

To maximize your rewards, capture or kill a monster depending on your active food skill. The Capture Pro Meal is a food skill that, while active, rewards you with four monster materials after capturing a monster. Meanwhile, the Carver Meal can give you a chance to carve the slain monster by an additional 1-2 times.
Both meals can be eaten in the Grand Hub's canteen but will require a meal voucher. Alternatively, you can be invited by Tasheen in Ruins of Wyveria for the Capture Pro Meal, or by Maki in Oilwell Basin for the Carver Meal.
Capturing monsters may be the better option for hunting monsters that can be captured most of the time, especially if you want to end the hunt faster.
As capturing monsters can speed up your hunt by skipping the last few HP of a monster, you can steadily increase your farming speed by capturing them instead.
These saved seconds or minutes stack up over the duration of a hunting session which can potentially lead to more rewards!
There are times where you may want to kill a monster or prolong the fight rather than capturing the monster immediately.
Certain items that may drop from part breaks like a monster's tail can easily guarantee some specific drops that you may need from that monster.
