How to Beat Jin Dahaad

Jin Dahaad Monster Fight Tips

Take Cover From Its One Shot AoE Explosion

Midway into the fight, Jin Dahaad will unleash a huge AoE attack that will cart you instantly and cannot be avoided by keeping distance. To survive the attack, knock down a Giant Ice Chunk hanging above the area to create a cover for yourself when the time comes. Get behind the fallen chunk to protect yourself against this attack.

Avoid it By Fast Traveling to Camp

If you're unable to find an ice chunk to hide behind, you can Fast Travel back to camp in a pinch from the menu to avoid the attack. Open the Map and press Right and then the selection button two times to make a speedy escape.

Attack Its Forelegs First

Staying between Jin Dahaad's front and back legs will allow you to avoid a greater portion of its attacks, and since the legs are also weak points, this will provide you with plenty of opportunities to deal damage and score topples. Although going for the head is tempting, it's harder to reach due to its long neck and is dangerous as many of its head attacks inflict Frostblight.

Break the 3 Other Iceplates to Make Its Upper Back Vulnerable

The plates on Jin Dahaad's upper back are initially unbreakable, but will become vulnerable when the other three Iceplates – on its head, lower back, and tail – are broken. Then, when its upper back plates are broken, its Breath Attacks will become weaker, making the remainder of the fight easier.

Breaking the Iceplates will also yield exclusive rewards in addition to weakening it, so focus on attacking the plates whenever Jin Dahaad is downed.

Bring Down the Giant Frozen Pillar When It Climbs Up

In the second area, Jin Dahaad will climb the Giant Frozen Pillar and use its Ice Breath. After the pillar starts to collapse, focus on it and press the interact button to bring it down. Not only will this deal significant damage to it, but it will cause a definite topple for a free damage cycle.

Note that while Jin Dahaad is on the pillar, it will use its Ice Breath 4 times before the pillar can be brought down. After the 3rd time, the pillar will begin to collapse, but don't get hasty as you're liable to get caught in the 4th Ice Breath when trying to knock down the pillar.

Head Becomes A Weak Point After Its Breath Attack

After using its breath attack, Jin Dahaad's head becomes a weak point. Deal a flurry of attacks or use your Focus Strike to make it flinch or knock it down!

Use Environmental Traps for Bonus Damage

Jin Dahaad will move to different parts of the map, so it's a good idea to look out for environmental traps that you can use against it to speed up the hunt.

Brittle Ice Pillar, Iceshard Cliffs

Locale Area
Rimechain Peak

There are several Brittle Ice Pillars in Rimechain Peak of Iceshard Cliffs that you can use during your hunt. Position Jin Dahaad carefully underneath the pillars and use your Slinger to pull down the boulder and knock it off its feet!

Crumbling Ice Wall, Iceshard Cliffs

Locale Area
Rimechain Peak

At the edge of the area in Iceshard Cliffs, you can deal enormous damage and knock Jin Dahaad down when you use your Slinger to bring down the Crumbling Ice Wall on it.

How to Set and Activate Traps

Use Cleansers or Bind Resist to Handle Frostblight

Cleansers are essential to bring in this fight to remove any Frostblight you gain. Frostblight is extremely dangerous as it snares you in place, opening you for any damage. Jin Dahaad will often follow this up with its Ice Breath which can cart on a direct hit, so use Cleanser right away to escape to a safe position.

Alternatively, you can stack Bind Resist into your build to shorten the duration of Frostblight, or prevent it completely at level 3.

Best Items to Bring on Hunts

Boost Your Survivability in the Prep Phase

You Can't Capture Jin Dahaad

Focus all your offensive effort in to slaying Jin Dahaad as it cannot be captured. Pitfall Trapswill not work on the monster, but Shock Traps remains viable.

Bring all healing and buffing items like Armorskin and Demondrug along with Adamant Seeds and Might Seeds to increase your damage and defense. You'll also want to bring Hot Drinks to avoid stamina depletion over time.

You'll also need to bring Nulberry and Cleansers to deal with Jin Dahaad's Iceblight and Frostblight. Frostblight is the more dangerous status of the two, as it keeps you in place, leaving you open for an attack.
