| How to Activate Latent Power |

|
|

The main condition for activating Latent Power is to be around a monster for 2 minutes. While active, the affinity and stamina bonuses last for two minutes, after which you'll need to wait two minutes for Latent Power to activate again. Taking or dealing damage does not appear to speed up the cooldown.

Once Latent Power activates, you can track the remaining time on the upper left portion of your screen right above your health bar.
Latent Power's duration can be increased with the Thunderous Roar skill by wearing Rey Dau armor. Equipping two pieces extends the effect by 30 seconds while 4 pieces extends it by up to 90 seconds.

Taking enough damage while Latent Power is equipped can immediately activate the skill. Based on our testing, taking 130 damage in total while a monster is around will activate the skill even before the usual 2-minute activation. Note that this doesn't have to be a single hit. There is also no cooldown for this, so taking 130 damage after the skill wears off can reactivate it earlier again. Although risky, it's currently the only way to get the bonuses faster.

Conditions are calculated as time with Latent Power over total hunt time and assume at least 1 full activation of Latent Power while with a monster. Worst case assumes the hunt ends right before next Latent Power activation. Best case assumes the hunt ends right as Latent Power duration ends.
Latent Power's uptime depends greatly on how well a hunter plays and how long a hunt lasts. The numbers above are edge cases and should only be used to determine the possible range of uptimes.
Good hunters probably won't take a lot of damage and will likely need to wait the full 2 minutes for the skill to activate. In contrast, players who get hit a lot can activate Latent Power earlier, increasing the skill's uptime for less experienced players.
The uptime also depends on how long a hunt takes. It's typically better to finish hunts closer to the full duration of Latent Power to maximize the value of the skill. Finishing hunts during cooldown is typically worse as more time is spent without the bonuses. This also means it's worth considering the Thunderous Roar set bonus from Rey Dau armor sets if going for a Latent Power build.

Latent Power increases your Affinity and reduces your stamina depletion by a set amount after being in combat for 2 minutes or getting hit for a total 130 points of damage, whichever comes first.
The effect of Latent Power also lasts for 2 minutes, and can be extended further with the set skill Thunderous Roar for up to 3.5 minutes.
Latent Power's reduced stamina depletion effect stacks with Constitution. However, the maximum reduction for stamina depletion is capped at 50%. Exceeding this limit will not give additional reductions on stamina depletion.
As an example, stacking Latent Power and Constitution both at level 5 should give 100% reduction on stamina depletion. However, due to the maximum cap of 50%, you will only enjoy a 50% reduction on stamina depletion.
Latent Power has powerful buffs, as it can give up to 50% affinity while also providing the equivalent of Constitution 5 at level 3. However, it's mostly held back by its activation condition and generally middling uptime. Skilled players may find skills like Agitator or Weakness Exploit to be more consistent and will suit their builds better.
Generally, the skill can be worth it for hunters who get hit a lot since they don't need to wait 2 full minutes for activation. Its buffs don't have any conditions once activated, making it viable for players that struggle with hitting weak points often. The stamina buff can also be appreciated by Bow and Dual Blades users.

The damage to activate they state here is the amount "you" take. Not deal. This skill sense it came out in the monster hunter series has always been one you can rush activate via tanking damage. OR waiting for it to turn on it own after a timer.

I think you also need to be in a detected state when taking damage to speed it up, maybe to prevent activation from barrel bombing yourself when no monsters are nearby?
