Monster Hunter Wilds

Exhaust Status Explained: How to Exhaust Monsters

Add to Watchlist

To Exhaust monsters in Monster Hunter: Wilds, players need to hit them with Blunt Damage Weapons, or use Exhaust Phials, Ammo, or Coatings. See how to Exhaust monsters in this guide!

How to Exhaust Monsters

Tips for Exhausting Monsters

Build Up Exhaust With Blunt Weapons

To Exhaust a monster, it has to get hit by attacks that inflict Exhaust Buildup. Exhaust is a unique status ailment that generally does not appear as an element on a weapon, but is inflicted with Blunt Damage.

Hitting monsters with a Hammer or Hunting Horn enough will cause the status to take effect, greatly reducing the monster's stamina and causing it to drool. Note that each successful status trigger will make monsters more resistant to that status.

All Weapons and Guides

Use Impact or Exhaust Phials

Exhaust Phials

Some Charge Blades and Switch Axes have access to Exhaust Buildup through Impact Phials and Exhaust Phials respectively, which work similarly to the Exhaust Buildup inflicted by Blunt Weapons.

Use Exhaust Ammo or Coatings

Exhaust Ammo in Ammo List

Similarly, ranged weapons have Exhaust Ammunition and Exhaust Coatings that inflict the status Buildup on monsters. The former is available to Light and Heavy Bowguns, while Bows use the latter.

Exhaust Explained

Monsters Will Become Fatigued

Triggering the Exhausted status on a monster greatly reduces its stamina, and can cause it to move slower and attack less frequently. It might also stand around, almost idly.

Some Monsters Resist Exhaustion

Some monsters have an innate resistance to being Exhausted, meaning that it will take significantly more Exhaust Buildup to trigger the status.

sword and shield also has a combo that inflicts exhaust. Also insect glaives' kinsect attacks can cause exhaust.
