Forge the Final Weapon in the Tree
To unlock a specific Layered Weapon, players will have to forge the Final Weapon of that Layered Weapon's tree. Doing so will unlock the entire tree for use as Layered Weapon options.
For most weapons, this requires crafting and upgrading them to Rarity 8.
Fully Reinforce an Artian 8 Weapon
To unlock an Artian Weapon as a Layered Weapon, players will have to fully reinforce the Rarity 8 Artian Weapon that they want to use as a Layered Weapon.
Forge High-Rank Palico Weapons
Unlocking Layered Palico Weapons will need you to craft the High-Rank version of the weapons you want to use as Layered skins.
How to Equip Layered Weapons
Equip in Equipment Appearance Menu
You can equip and change Layered Weapons in the Equipment Appearance menu which you can access when inside a tent or a Pop-up Camp. The process is the same just like when changing your Layered Armor.
Any Layered Weapon that you have unlocked for a specific weapon type will be listed in the menu, and you can also change the appearance of your equipped secondary weapon.

The feature to equip Layered Weapons was added with Title Update 2 for the game, which released on June 30, 2025. The update also added Lagiacrus and Seregios to the game, along with other new content.

What are Layered Weapons?
Changes the Appearance of Equipped Weapon
Layered Weapons are cosmetic weapon skins that you can equip to change the way your weapon looks, without changing its stats and other properties.
These can be combined with Layered Armor to customize your hunter's appearance in battle, without affecting your build's combat prowess.
