Monster Hunter Wilds

How Does Attack Work?

Monster Hunter Wilds - How Does Attack Work.png

A weapon's Attack value can be used to compute how much damage you will deal in Monster Hunter Wilds. Learn more about how Attack works, what Bloat Value is, and how it affects your damage here!

What is Attack?

Used to Calculate Raw Damage

Raw Damage Calculation
((Attack/ Bloat Value) × Sharpness Modifier × (Motion Value / 100) × (Hitzone Value / 100) × Quest and Rage Modifier) x Critical Modifiers
=
Raw Damage

A weapon's Attack is used to compute the amount of Raw Damage that your weapon can deal whenever you perform specific attacks. By plugging your weapon's attack into the equation above, you can compute how much damage an attack or combo can deal on a monster.

After computing an attack's Raw Damage, it is then added to the Elemental Damage that the weapon deals (if any) to calculate the total damage you deal to a monster.

Damage Formula Explanations

Exaggerated by Bloat Value

Bloat Values exaggerate a weapon's Attack, making some weapons look more powerful than others. Fast attacking weapons like the Bow, for example, have a lower Bloat Value, while the Hammer has the highest Bloat Value in the game.

Each Weapon Has a Different Bloat Value

Weapon Bloat Weapon Bloat
Sword and Shield Sword & Shield 1.4 Great Sword Great Sword 4.8
Dual Blades Dual Blades 1.4 Long Sword Long Sword 3.3
Hammer.pngHammer 5.2 Lance Lance 2.3
Hunting Horn.pngHunting Horn 4.2 Gunlance Gunlance 2.3
Charge Blade Charge Blade 3.6 Switch Axe Switch Axe 3.5
Insect Glaive Insect Glaive 3.1 Bow.pngBow 1.2
Light Bowgun.pngLight Bowgun 1.3 Heavy Bowgun.pngHeavy Bowgun 1.5

To get a weapon's True Raw attack, you must divide its displayed Attack by the weapon's Bloat Value. A 480 Attack Greatsword, for example, will have a True Raw of 100 (480 divided by 4.8), while a 480 Attack Bow will have a True Raw of 400 (480 divided by 1.2).

Demon Ammo Provides Attack Buffs

Buff Ammo
The Demon Ammo is a special ammo for the Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun that can buff you and your team's Attack.
