Monster Hunter Wilds Wounding Mechanic Explained
Wounding increases the damage you deal on a specific part in Monster Hunter Wilds. Read on to learn more about how to inflict wounds and their effects here!

How to Inflict Wounds

Keep Attacking the Same Part

In order to inflict a wound, you first have to attack the specific part of the body that you want to wound. Doing so will show scars or scratches that signal which part is Wounded.

Try to aim for that part aggressively every time you have an opening since inflicting wounds takes more than just one hit.

Mounted Knife Attacks Can Cause Wounds

Mounted Knife Attacks

Whenever you mount a monster, you can use knife attacks to deal some damage while whittling down your target.

These can also open wounds on the monster, and since you can move around the monster's body while you are on it, you can open several wounds in a single mount!

Wounds Can Be Reopened

Even after initially destroying a wounded part, you can still keep attacking that part to reopen it and try to knock it down again.

Additionally, some monsters can reopen wounds by themselves, so make sure to constantly check for any open wounds!

How to Use and Consume Wounds

Highlight Wounds with Focus Mode

Using Focus mode will highlight their wounds in red, making it all the more visible and easier to aim for.

Destroy the Wound with Focus Strikes

After inflicting a wound, you can keep targeting that part to deal more damage and eventually knock it down. This will give you a huge opening for you to deal the most damage you can before it recovers.

Using normal attacks can still break the wound, but it is recommended to always use Focus Strike to deal more damage and destroying the wound in one go.

Tempered Monsters Appear With Tempered Wounds

Tempered Monsters have significantly higher health and attack than their normal counterparts which makes them extremely dangerous to face against if you're not prepared.

These tempered monsters will appear to have wounds all over their bodies which symbolizes that they've survived countless battles already.
