How to Start Monster Fights and Turf Wars Monster Hunter Wilds

Turf Wars start when two monsters encounter one another in an area in Monster Hunter Wilds. Learn how to start Turf Wars and what they are here.

How to Start Turf Wars

Lure Monsters to Each Other

Turf Wars start when large monsters encounter each other in the open field. You can trigger monster fights yourself by luring one monster to another using the Luring Pod. When you hit a monster with a Luring Pod, you will see a red line between you and the monster, signifying that you're currently being targeted and that the monster will start to follow you.

Other than using the Luring Pod, Turf Wars typically happen every now and then, as monsters have a route they follow and travel through. Monster routes can merge, causing them to come into contact with each other.

Do note though that not every monster can initiate a Turf War with another. Although you can usually expect this mechanic to activate from more aggressive monsters in the game.

What to Do During Turf Wars?

Prepare for the Hunt

During a Turf War, the monsters will be too busy fighting one another. This gives you a golden opportunity to take a breather. Find a safe space, then heal yourself, and sharpen your weapon!

Attack Wisely

Turf Wars may end once you attack one of the monsters, or even when you use traps or flashbangs, so be sure to have a battleplan in mind. Once you're ready, find the right opportunity to strike!

What are Turf Wars?

Monster Fights for Territory

Turf War is a mechanic that will trigger once two different monsters come into contact with each other. These monsters will fight, and by the end, one or both of them will receive considerable damage with a good chance to drop loot.

Small Monsters can Attack Large Monsters

Aside from large monsters clashing with each other, other small monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds can also actively attack large monsters from different species. Take advantage of these small interactions, as this could deal a good amount of damage to the monster you're hunting!

List of Small Monsters

Damage Taken is Based on Max Health

If you let a Turf War end, the damage taken by the involved monsters will depend on their maximum health. This is why you shouldn't interfere with Turf Wars, as they are essentially free damage.

Monsters Can’t Be In the Same Turf War

King of the Skies Quest Rewards

While multiple Turf Wars can happen in a quest, the same monsters can't participate in the same Turf War twice. For example, if Xu Wu and Guardian Rathalos already had a Turf War at the start of your quest, they can't do another one until you complete it!
