To proceed with The Daunting Downpour Free Challenge Quest, you'll need to be at least HR 50 to be able to take on the quest at the Grand Hub.

As Arch-Tempered Uth Duna is weak to Thunder, it's highly suggested to use Lagiacrus weapons for this hunt. These weapons have high Thunder attack that can be further boosted with their innate Convert Thunder Resistance skill.

Along with skills from your weapons, armor, and talismans, you can further boost your Attack power by using items and meals. Most meals give a +5 Attack Boost, but you can get additional damage boosts from the Food Skills that you choose.
While the Flamefete event is available, you can claim the Flamefete Barbecue Meal using Flamefete Vouchers from July 22 until August 5, 2025 (ET)! This meal offers the Moxie Meal, Swimmer Meal, and Balanced Meal food skills. These skills are particularly useful against Arch-Tempered Uth Duna.
If not the Flamefete Barbecue Meal, the other region-based meals are also very serviceable, especially as they have Insurance Meal.
| Item | Attack Boost | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| +7 | 30 min | |
| +10 | 3 min | |
| +25 | 20 sec | |
| +6 | Indefinite (when in pouch) |
Bring these items to the hunt if you want to maximise your Attack power. The buffs of these items also stack on top of each other, totaling to a +48 Attack Boost when all of them are active at the same time. Just take note of their durations!
You can settle for the lesser versions of these items such as Demondrug and Might Seed, but do note that they don't stack with their greater versions. If you've consumed a Demondrug and a Mega Demondrug, the Mega Demondrug will overwrite the effects of the Demondrug.

In this quest, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna will spawn in Area 17. If you have a Pop-Up Camp set up there, setting your departure point to the Great Lake Shore camp will save you time travelling towards the monster.
Scarlet Forest Camps and Map Guide
When angered, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna will do its big Wave Call attack in Area 17. Once it dives into the water, drop the Loch Ruins when the monster is right underneath them in order to stop the attack and knock it out the water. This deals huge damage to AT Uth Duna and gives you a great damage window as well.

Take note of which Loch Ruins the monster will go nearest to as there's two of them!
When you find yourself in Area 15 with Arch-Tempered Uth Duna, make sure to utilize the Dam Rubble environmental trap by the waterfall. Activating this trap deals great damage to the monster and knocks it down for a while. It's a good damage window if you don't get too caught up in the trap's waves.
| Bowguns with Lv.2 Sleep Ammo |
|---|
| ・Desolate Mist LBG ・Titan Launcher LBG ・Ner Bustergun HBG ・Artian Bowguns (Sleep) |
The initial attack done on a sleeping monster has greatly increased damage. Because of this, it's suggested to put AT Uth Duna to sleep using Sleep Ammo when it's by the Dam Rubble trap. Once it's asleep, activate the trap to wake it up and deal huge damage.
Sleep Status Explained: How to Make Monsters Sleep
Similar to regular Uth Duna, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna has veils covering its whole body. These reduce the damage the monster takes. Keep attacking the veils to remove them so you don't have to deal with the reduced damage for a while.
Do note that AT Uth Duna grows the veils back after some time. It's especially harder to get rid of them from the arch-tempered variant of this monster.
In this quest, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna has fixed spots where Tempered Wounds will appear. These spots are its Head, Left Foreleg, and Right Hindleg. Attack these parts to wound them, and make sure to Focus Strike or break these wounds every time. Not only does this give you Wyverian Bloodstones, but it also staggers AT Uth Duna. It also occasionally knocks it down!
You can also utilize Offset Attacks or Power Clashes along with wound breaking to really maximize your damage windows.
When Arch-Tempered Uth Duna does its Twist Dive attack, where it leaps into the air to flop its body on you, you can actually flinch it mid-attack with a Flash Pod to stop it. This may also knock it down and you can get a good damage window from it!
Be careful as you can still get damaged by the initial jumps, even if AT Uth Duna doesn't complete its belly flop. Even just touching it while it's mid-air can cart you if you're not careful.

In the heat of the hunt, you can actually shoot certain Slinger Ammo without needing to sheathe your weapon. This saves you time and allows you to instantly use Slinger pods even when your weapon is out.
Do note that this is only doable with Paint Pods, Dung Pods, and Flash Pods.
When angered, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna can do its Twist Dive attack twice in a row. After the second one, Focus Strike its mouth if it glows red in Focus Mode. A successful Focus Strike to this Weak Point deals good damage to the monster, and may even knock it down for a brief moment.
How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike
While hunting, Uth Duna produces waves to disrupt your combos and mess up your positioning. Arch-Tempered Uth Duna further weaponizes this to damage you and bring you to compromising positions for its own attacks.
Using the Aquatic/Oilsilt Mobility skill at Lv.2 negates the disrupting effect of AT Uth Duna's waves. Just remember the skill has to be at Level 2 as Level 1 is not enough. You can wear armor pieces with this skill or slot in decorations with the skill.
Do note as well that this skill does not negate the damage that some waves cause, even at Level 2. It just allows you to pass through them.
Aquatic/Oilsilt Mobility Skill Effects
While this is a Slay quest, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna is still susceptible to Shock Traps and Pitfall Traps. AT Uth Duna is much more mobile than its regular variant. Coupled with its faster movement and less delays between its attacks, it's always good to find ways to stop this monster in its tracks

If you are trying to get an A rank for this quest solo, remember to turn off the option to call for Support Hunters to avoid increasing the monster's HP. If you have this option turned on, Olivia and the others will join the hunt and automatically increase the monster's health. The hunt will take longer to complete because of this.
You can disable Support Hunters in the 'Post/Join Quest' settings. Set Multiplayer Settings to Only Players so no Support Hunter can join.
If you're playing online, you don't need to worry about random players joining, as the quest will be locked once you start the hunt.

Arch-Tempered Uth Duna has the same weaknesses as a regular Uth Duna. It's weakest to the Thunder element and most susceptible to attacks to its Forelegs. Aim to get rid of its protective Veils first as those reduce the damage Uth Duna takes.
