How to Beat Chatacabra

Chatacabra Monster Fight Tips

Break the Stones on the Arms

The Chatacabra can occasionally stop attacking to coat its arms in stones and dirt, toughening them up and giving it more attacks. Attack the arms repeatedly to break the minerals off, and stagger the monster.

The newly added Focus Mode can help hunters attack the arms, so be sure to utilize it when aiming to stagger the Chatacabra.

How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike

Attack the Tongue Weak Point

The Chatacabra's tongue is one of its main weak points. When it attacks with its tongue, guard against it or dodge, then strike back to hit the tongue while the monster recovers.

Be Wary of Tongue Attacks

Although it is a weak point, the Chatacabra's tongue is capable of extending for longer-reaching attacks, and can be used in a sweeping attack to hit hunters on its sides.

Be wary of its range when attacking from the side, or making space to heal or sharpen, as it may still be able to reach hunters with its tongue.

Dodge the Charge Attack

The Chatacabra can wind up to charge in a direction, heavily damaging hunters in its path. There is a brief wind-up before this charge, so back off once the monster appears to ready itself to run.

Lure Chatacabra to Wall Fissures

In some parts of the area, Chatacabra can get briefly trapped in wall fissures. Lure it into attacking these fissures for it to get stuck. This gives you a decent window for damage.

Set Barrel Bombs for Charge Attacks

Placing or Rolling a Barrel Bomb while the Chatacabra performs its charge attack toward you will cause the Chatacabra to eat the Barrel Bomb. Although this move is a bit impractical, it's fun to do!

Chatacabra Attack Patterns

Moveset and Openings

Attack Description
Tongue Lash
The Chatacabra extends its tongue before whipping it forward, hitting hunters directly in front of it. Dodge to the left or right to avoid the attack.
Tongue Sweep
The Chatacabra drags its tongue on the floor in an arc around it, sweeping its surroundings. Dodge backwards, away from the Chatacabra. Do not dodge to the side as you may still get hit.
Overhead Smash
Chatacabra raises an arm over its head, before bringing it down to slam the area ahead of it. Run away from the Chatacabra as it raises its arm to avoid the impact.
Crushing Leap
Chatacabra briefly tucks its body in, then jumps and deals damage where it lands. Avoid being in front of the Chatacabra while it jumps, as that is where it lands after jumping.
Heavy Charge
After a brief windup, the Chatacabra charges forward, slamming the ground in front of it as it moves. Run away to avoid being caught in the stampede once the Chatacabra winds up.
