How to Beat Leviathans

Fanged Beast Fight Tips

Use Piercing Attacks and Ammo

A Leviathan's long size means piercing attacks, particularly Piercing Ammo can deal high damage due to the projectile traveling through the entire length of their bodies.

Weapons such as the Bow, Light Bowgun, and Heavy Bowgun offer great matchups against Leviathans since you can use skills or ammo that can pierce their long bodies.

Insect Glaive Kinsect: Harvest Extract
Light Bowgun Pierce Ammo
Heavy Bowgun Pierce Ammo

Focus on Attacking Their Sides

When facing a Leviathan, focus on attacking their sides first. These monsters take a while to turn around and reposition due to their length and their sides and belly areas are a blind spot that's especially vulnerable when they lunge with their heads and tails.

Cut a Leviathan's Tail to Reduce Their Range

Many Leviathans, such as Balahara and Hirabami, use their long tails as their primary way to attack hunters.

While cutting their tails won't prevent them from using them, it significantly reduces the range of their attacks and will make them easier to approach and contend with!

What are Leviathans?

Large Serpentine Monsters

Leviathans are a monsters characterized by their long, serpentine bodies and relatively short limbs. Leviathans were originally mostly aquatic but are now found in different locations, with monsters such as Balahara and Hirabami found in desert and icy environments respectively.
