The Sword and Shield is the perfect starter weapon for any first-time player. This weapon can dish out fast combos while being mobile and allows you to guard attacks making it a great weapon for teaching the basics of hunting.
If you are completely new to the game and just started out, we highly recommend picking up this weapon!

Dual Blades are great for beginners who like to stay on the offensive. They can perform various moves that can change from Demon/Archdemon Mode which allows you to dodge between your combos, making this an extremely mobile weapon with high DPS. Aside from dealing damage, the Dual Blades are just cool in itself with all the flashy moves they can do such as the Heavenly Blade Dance.
Keep in mind that this weapon is stamina heavy so it might take a bit of time to get used to the constant stamina reduction.

If you want to start with ranged weapons, we highly recommend both the Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun as starter weapons. The Light Bowgun provides high mobility while the Heavy Bowgun makes up for it by guarding attacks. These bowguns allow you to attack from a safe distance using various Ammo Types of different elements and status ailments.
Although these weapons are fairly easy to use, they do require a preparation phase where you need to craft specific ammo before heading out on a hunt.

The Great Sword is a good weapon to start with for beginners as it is perfect for hit-and-run strategies. Although their movement and attacks are extremely slow, they make up for it with raw power by having one of the highest damage moves in the game, True Charged Slash.
This weapon is easy for new players who want to master it in the long run as it evolves from the hit-and-run playstyle into the advanced counter playstyle once you figure out your timings.

Lastly, the Lance is one of the easiest defensive weapons for beginners to learn as their combos are particularly the easiest to perform. Their playstyle revolves around being a tank, guarding attacks and initiating counters to make up for their low damage output.
Although this weapon is relatively easy because of the simple combos, the Lance is hard to master as it requires extensive knowledge of monsters in order to be effective.
