How to Beat Cephalopods

Cephalopod Fight Tips

Cut Their Tentacles

You can cut 6 of a Cephalopod's eight limbs. While this doesn't prevent them from attacking as they still have access to their two "main" tentacles, it reduces the damage they can inflict with their swiping attacks.

Cutting a tentacle also allows you to carve that cut part, and you have a total of 6 additional tentacle carves if you manage to cut all of a cephalopod's tentacles!

How to Break Monster Parts

Avoid Its Grab Attack

All Cephalopods have a dangerous grab attack that can deal high damage to hunters. Nu Udra can unleash a powerful fire attack while Xu Wu will devour a hunter, which can result in a one-hit kill if your health is low enough!

Although you can break away from their grab by stabbing them with your knife, the most effective way is to shoot the Cephalopod with your slinger. The Throwing Knife slinger ammo is effective, though you can also grab any other slinger ammo in the area!

Stay Close to Avoid Their Long Range Attacks

Both Cephalopods in the game are more dangerous when they fight at long range. Nu Udra can expel a powerful Fire Breath that can cover a large area while Xu Wu can fire sharp projectiles very quickly.

When fighting either cephalopod, it's best to stay close to avoid their more dangerous long range attacks. While they can still swipe you with their tentacles, these deal less damage compared to their more powerful ranged attacks!

What are Cephalopods?

Mollusk-Like Monsters with Eight Tentacles

Cephalopods are monsters that look similar to real-life Octopi, also possessing eight limbs and the ability to squeeze into small crevices when traversing locations.

All Cephalopods Have Poor Vision

Both Cephalopods in Monster Hunter Wilds have poor vision, with Xu Wu being completely blind. Instead, they use sensory organs or sound to track other monsters and hunters alike. As a result, they are immune to Flash Pods!
