Having Dragon Element on a weapon makes it stronger against dragons in Monster Hunter Wilds. Check this guide to know what Dragon Element does, the effects of Dragon Element and Dragon Resistance, and what the Dragonblight status ailment is here!

What Does Dragon Element Do?

Strengthens Weapons and Enhances Resistance Against Dragons

Arkveld

A weapon imbued with the Dragon Element deals increased damage to wyverns that are weak to it, such as Arkveld, its Guardian counterpart, and the Guardian Ebony Odogaron. Unlike other elemental types, Dragon Element is only effective against Dragons rather than a wide variety of foes.

Meanwhile, Dragon Resistance on an Armor piece lessens the chance of your hunter being afflicted by Dragonblight when hit with a Dragon Element attack.

Dragonblight is Only Inflicted by Monsters

Monster Hunter Wilds Dragonblight Attack

Dragonblight, like most elemental status ailments, can only be inflicted by monsters. Hunters cannot apply it themselves, and it primarily functions to nullify a target's elemental attack power.

If afflicted, your weapon’s elemental damage will be temporarily disabled until the effect wears off or is cured.

Most Weapon Types Can Deal Dragon Element Damage

Dragon Resistance Skill
Increases resistance against dragon attacks. Also improves defense at higher levels.
Level Effect
1 Dragon resistance +6
2 Dragon resistance +12
3 Dragon resistance +20, Defense +10

Dragon Resistance increases resistance and reduces damage taken from dragon element attacks. Equip this for a higher chance of resisting Dragonblight and prevent it from negating your weapon's elements!

Dragon Resistance Skill Effects

Increase Dragon Resistance to 20 or More

Monster Hunter Wilds Dragon Resistance 20 or More

We recommend increasing your Armor Skill's Dragon Resistance to 20 or higher for guaranteed immunity against Dragonblight. Any value below 20 still leaves you vulnerable to the ailment, though a resistance of 18–19 provides a decent buffer, as long as you avoid frequent hits.

Dragonblight Status Ailment Explained

What is Dragonblight?

Inflicted by Dragons

Monsters With Dragonblight
ArkveldArkveld Guardian ArkveldGuardian Arkveld Guardian Ebony OdogaronGuardian Ebony Odogaron

Dragonblight occurs when you receive a Dragon Element attack from a monster. You can tell when they are about to deal an attack with Dragon Element damage if their movements exhibit a black-and-red glowing aura.

This is unique only to these types of monsters, so stay vigilant and dodge their attacks as much as possible!

Negates Elemental Attacks

When the hunter is inflicted with Dragonblight, their weapon's elemental damage will be negated. This also includes using Elemental Phials, so make sure to dodge attacks that can inflict you with dragonblight!

If you do get hit, consume a Nulberry to get rid of Dragonblight quickly before heading back to the fight.

List of Status Effects

Status Ailments Wear Off in 60 Seconds

Dragonblight will wear off naturally within 60 seconds, and you can check its status on the upper left side of the screen, on top of your health bar. When there are only 20 seconds left, the number will be displayed above the status ailment.

However, it's better to get rid of it immediately with Nulberries or Purewasps since elemental damage is very important in taking down enemies faster!

Cure Dragonblight by Using Nulberries

To cure Dragonblight, hunters simply need to use a Nulberry.

If you don't have Nulberries, you need to wait until the purple dragonblight icon disappears from your hunter's status before you can deal elemental damage again.

Nulberry Location: How to Get and Uses

Cure Dragonblight With Purewasps

Purewasps are the next most accessible consumable if you run out of Nulberries. They are be found in different regions and can be useful in a pinch, although they aren't as reliable as Nulberries when you're in a pinch!

Purewasp Location and How to Get

Palicos Will Occassionally Deliver Purewasps

Monster Hunter Wilds Purewasp Delivered by a Palico

If you are afflicted by Dragonblight, your Palico may occasionally deliver a Purewasp to cure you of the affliction. This happens at random intervals, though is not guaranteed most of the time. Still, it’s reassuring to know that your furry companion has your back!
