Monster Hunter Wilds

What are Motion Values?

Add to Watchlist

Motion Values dictate how much damage a weapon's moves do in Monster Hunter Wilds. Learn more about what motion values are, how to compute them, and how to make combos with them here!

What Are Motion Values?

Dictates How Much Damage Moves Do

Motion Values affect how much damage a move does. Different moves deal different amounts of damage, so the damage will change based on what kind of attack you perform.

Differs Based on Moves and Weapon Type

Not every move or weapon type has the same Motion Value. As a rule of thumb, attacks and moves from smaller and faster weapons have smaller Motion Values, while attacks from larger and slower weapons have higher Motion Values.

For example, the Dual Blades' Double Slash has a total of 18 Motion Value, while the Great Sword's True Charged Slash at full power has 218 Motion Value.

How Do You Compute Motion Values?

Derive it Based on the Damage Formula

Motion Value Calculation
(10000 x Damage Dealt ) /
( Effective Raw x Hitzone Value x Quest and Rage Modifier)
=
Motion Value

By isolating the Motion Value from the Damage Formula, you will be able to compute what a move's Motion Value is. To do this, take note of your weapon's Attack and Sharpness, as well as any Critical stats like Affinity that it has (although it would be easier if it didn't have any) to get the weapon's Effective Raw.

Go to the Training Area afterward and perform your moves on the Training Dummy, which has a Hitzone Value of 80. You will be able to get your moves' Motion Value after plugging in the damage that you deal to the dummy.

Remember to set your damage numbers to display decimal points, and to only round up or down at the end of the computation.

How To Make Combos Using Motion Values

Combine Moves With High MV and Fast Animations

To discover the best combos for your weapon, you must string together attacks with high Motion Values. For example, the Great Sword's Standard True Charged Slash combo has 319 Motion Value, and takes around 8 seconds to perform. That means you are performing roughly 40 Motion Value per Second, which is good for the slow moving Great Sword.
