Damage Modifiers of Monster Parts

Damage Calculation
((Attack / Bloat Value) × Sharpness Modifier × Motion Value × Hitzone Value × Quest and Rage Modifier) x Critical Modifiers

Damage

※ Elemental Damage does not include Motion Values for its calculation!

Hitzone Values are one of the essential modifiers used for calculating Raw and Elemental damage. Each part will have its assigned value, which is multiplied alongside Attack, Motion Value, Sharpness, and Affinity to calculate your overall damage.

Damage Formula Explanations

Reflects a Monster's Vulnerability

Hitzone Values determine whether or not a specific body part is considered weak or resistant. Keep a general note that the higher the stars shown are, the weaker the Monster is towards that damage or elemental type.

For example, since a Rey Dau has a high Ice HZV on its Head, it is considered a weak spot. Rey Dau will receive significant damage from Ice attacks since it will have a positive multiplier for the base Elemental damage.

However, if you were to hit Arkveld on its torso, you would deal considerably low damage since it is an armored part of his body, thus having lower HZV.

Determines if an Attack Bounces Off

Bounce Calculation
Hitzone Value x Sharpness Modifier
Bounces if below 25

Your weapon will bounce off of the Monster and end your attack due to hitting a part with high HZVs while having low sharpness. While this does not dampen the usual damage you deal, it will reduce your sharpness significantly and slow you down!

To prevent this, even if you are not dealing more damage, consider taking the Mind's Eye skill or using the Self Improvement song of a Hunting Horn!

Weapon Sharpness Explained

Can Change Through-Out the Hunt

Depending on the Monster, their HZVs will drastically change as you progress through the hunt and whittle their resistances down or anger them. For example, breaking down Gravios' chest will result in him receiving significantly more damage since you will expose its muscle fibers!
