For this build, we went with a Greifen focusing mostly on Attack Boosts rolled with at most 2x Capacity Boost reinforcements. Element-based Heavy Bowguns are recommended for this build to make full use of the elemental buffs from Coalescence 3 and Burst 1.

If you decide on a raw HBG, Mizutsune's Mountainous Roar is a nice pick for having a large Piercing Ammo capacity (Lvl. 3, 6 shots per clip) and raw damage output that will still benefit from most of your damage skills. You can choose to have it also as a secondary weapon if you wish.

Most damage from this build will come from Agitator 5 and Coalescence 3 with the addition of your HBG's Elemental Attack skills. We recommend you stock up on lots of Elemental Ammo to exploit the monster's weakness given this skills.

For using any other raw ammo such as Spread or Pierce, you will still get a lot of raw damage boost due to Agitator 5's +20 raw, and also from the additional raw boost of Black Eclipse II (+10 raw while under Frenzy, and +15 when cured).

This build focuses on dealing as much Thunder damage as possible in three ways: Raw Attack, Affinity, and Thunder Attack bonus. Raw Attack buffs come from Agitator, Burst, and Guts (Tenacity), while Affinity comes from Latent Power, Maximum Might, Weakness Exploit, and Azure Bolt.

The Thunder Attack bonuses, on the other hand, will come from Thunder Resistance getting turned into additional Thunder Attack, as well as Burst's bonus elemental damage. For comfort, the build provides longer evasions with Evade Extender, faster weapon sheathing for relocation using Quick Sheathe, damage reduction from Divine Blessing, and Earplugs to counter monster roars.

If you do not have the needed Appraised Talisman, you can swap it for a Chain Charm II for an additional level in Burst, which will help provide additional damage. If you're doing this, replace the Chain Jewel in the build to another Challenger Jewel to max out Agitator. Make sure to also replace the Precise Jewel 1 for an Opener Jewel 1 so you have at least one level of Opening Shot, and the Precise Jewel 2 for a Crit Element Jewel 2.

This build can give you more than 100% Affinity whenever the monster is enraged, which happens often in High Rank hunts. This is thanks to Agitator, Weakness Exploit, Maximum Might, and a combination of Frenzy and Antivirus, which gives you enough Affinity to reach maximum.

Your damage buffs outside of Affinity will come from Burst and Agitator, as well as your weapon skills, such as Opening or Tetrad Shot and Critical Boost. For comfort, you have Constitution to lower the stamina cost of your dodges and blocks as well as Super Recovery and Recovery Speed for passive health regeneration.

For this build, we suggest using the Corrupted Mantle for increased Affiniity and Attack. Make sure to activate the Mantle's second effect to enjoy the Attack Bonus. Make sure to take note of its active period and the cooldown afterwards!

Weapon & Type Explanation
Varianza IconVarianza
(Great Sword)
• A Sleep Varianza with high Attack stats will be able to take advantage of the Agitator, Weakness Exploit, and Maximum Might combo.
• Bring Bombs as the Great Sword can apply Sleep easily on monsters.
• You will need to use uncharged attacks if you want to take advantage of Burst.
Rathling Phoenix IconRathling Phoenix
(Light Bowgun)
• Can Rapid Fire Level 2 Pierce ammo, which synergizes well with Weakness Exploit and the Bowgun's Critical Boost
• Can also Rapid Fire Level 2 Flaming Ammo, making it strong against monsters weak to Fire.
• Can Rapid Fire Poison Ammo, making it easier to poison monsters.

Build Playstyle and Combos

The recommended playstyle to maximize the build is as follows:

  1. Start hunts with a Sneak Attack, monster mount, or both (sneak attack then mount).
  2. Only Dodge or Block when necessary to keep your Stamina full, which will activate Maximum Might 2 and provide 20 Affinity.
  3. Take advantage of the auto-block to defend aganist monster attacks. Manually block when able to execute Perfect Guards, which will negate the block's Stamina usage.
  4. Keep firing as much as possible to take advantage of Burst 2's damage increase. Additionally, make sure to immediately clear Frenzy to enjoy its buffs, as well as the buff from Antivirus 3.
  5. Maintain Critical Distance to maximize your damage.
  6. If using Pierce Ammo, make sure to shoot at where the monster is longest (for example from head to tail) to increase damage output. Als make sure to aim at the monster's weak spot to enjoy the effects of Weakness Exploit 4
  7. Switch to Ignition mode and use your Special Ammo often.

The best playstyle for this build is to keep your distance from monsters and accurately shoot their weak points using Pierce Ammo. While Spread Ammo is viable with this build, you will have to switch to a more defensive playstyle thanks to your shorter range. Practice your Perfect Guards when using Spread Ammo.

When in combat, make sure to always be firing to maximize Burst's damage buff and keep refreshing its duration. Should you be forced to stop firing, a single Pierce or Spread shot is enough to fully stack Burst again. Additionally, make sure to keep moving to both maintain Critical Distance and to keep yourself safe from enemy attacks. Additionally, as this build uses Antivirus and Black Eclipse, make it your priority to clear the Frenzy status whenever it gets applied to you.

Should you need to evade or block enemy attacks, wait a moment for your Stamina to regenerate to full, which will reactivate Maximum Might 2 and provide Affinity to your attacks. Lastly, take advantage of the Heavy Bowgun's Ignition Mode to fire Special Ammo at the monster.

When building your Greifen, try to get two Attack Infusions and one Affinity Infusion so you have a good balance of damage and Affinity from the get-go. Make sure to get Paralysis as your weapon's element. Afterward, try to get at one or two Affinity Infusions, and Attack infusions for the rest. Getting one Capacity Boost Infusion for more ammo per magazine is also good.

As for the Decorations, get a Critical Jewel to strengthen your Critical damage, a hybrid Opener/Precise Jewel for both Opening Shot and Ballistics, and a hybrid Bandolier/Precise Jewel for Tetrad Shot and Ballistics. If you do not have the hybrid jewel, you can just use Opener Jewel III and Bandolier Jewel III.

Make sure to adjust your Ammo Powder mod based on whether you will run Pierce Ammo or Spread Ammo as these two bullets are currently the best base bullets. Either Wyvernheart or Wyvernpierce will work on this Heavy Bowgun. If you plan to use your Special Ammo often, equip the Ignition Mode Upgrade. Otherwise, equip the corresponding Ammo Magazine mod.

Alternatively, the Gore Magala Heavy Bowgun Ableben Abzug is a good alternative, as it has strong Raw, high Affinity, and Level 3 Pierce Ammo. Equipping a Pierce Jewel, Bandolier Jewel II, and a Precise Jewel will further increase your damage output.

The skill summary above takes note of all the skills if you use the Artian Weapon.

This build aims to maximize your Affinity through a variety of ways, namely Weakness Exploit, Maximum Might, and Agitator. Weakness Exploit will provide a bulk of the Affinity as long as you hit a monster's weak spots or Wounds. Maximum Might will provide a lot of Affinity as long as you have full Stamina, which should be easy to maintain with the Heavy Bowgun. Lastly, Agitator will provide both Attack and Affinity whenever the monster is enraged, which happens often in High Rank.

Additionally, a few levels in Burst will increase your damage after you shoot your first Pierce or Spread Shot, giving you even more damage for the next few shots. Tetrad Shot will strengthen your fourth shot, while Opening Shot will not only empower your first shot, but also increase your reload speed, lessening your damage downtime.

Binding Counter will increase your Attack for a while after you perform a Power Clash, while Hasten Recovery will provide some healing as long as you keep shooting and hitting the monster.

When crafting your Artian Sheller I, try to get two Attack Infusions and one Affinity Infusion for a good balance. Afterward, try to use the same element, ideally Paralysis so that your HBG can use Paralysis Ammo. Afterward, try to aim for Capacity Boost and Affinity for your Reinforcements.

Go for Opener Jewel II for Opening Shot, which gives your first bullet additional damage while also making your reloads faster. For mods, prioritize Pierce Ammo Powder and Pierce Ammo Magazine.

If you do not want to use Artian Sheller I, then Grounding Fulgur I is a good alternative. Although its base ammo is only at Level 1, its Thunder Ammo can reach Level 2 with the Elemental Ammo Powder mod, and can reach 8 capacity with the Elemental Boost Magazine. It may not be Pierce, but it can still synergize well with the build.

For Decorations, go for Bandolier Jewel II and Bandolier Jewel I, which gives you Tetrad Shot 3.

This High Rank build focuses on building up Burst's bonus damage, as well as the Affinity and Attack buffs from Maximum Might, Agitator, and Weakness Exploit. Agitator will activate when a monster is enraged, which is most of the time in High Rank, and Weakness Exploit will activate as long as you attack the monster's weak spots.

Since you will likely be keeping your distance from the monster, your Stamina will always remain full, activating Maximum Might. On the off chance that you have to dodge a monster's attack, the combination of Stamina Surge and Constitution will recharge it quickly to full, reactivating Maximum Might.

How do you get the rapid fire mod on the insurrection cannon?

12 Walkthrough Team Walkthrough Team@Game8 5 months

Hello! Thank you for pointing this out! We have updated the Gore-Lagi build to show the proper decorations now, particularly Lagiacrus Coil β incorrectly having a 3-slot jewel. Earplugs Jewel [2] now takes the place of the previous 3-slot in the coil, with Lagiacrus Helm β now having Jumping Jewel [2] instead to maintain Earplugs 2 while having Evade Extender 3 (feel free to swap for Earplugs 3). Agitator is intended to be level 2 for this build. Hope this helps!
