As you enter High Rank, having a build centered around G. Veldian Malleus I for its massive Raw Damage and access to Focus Lv 2 makes it a great Hammer for general use, especially when you get a Focus Jewel decoration early on.

Additionally, most Monsters will not have a high resistance to the Dragon element, meaning it is an overall damage boost!

If you prefer dealing more damage over Focus Lv 2's utility, Albirath Bludgeon I would be the better option. Stacking as much Affinity to utilize Critical Element gives it that slight edge over the Veldian Malleus! Furthermore, it has Master's Touch, allowing your Sharpness to stay stable.

However, the additional Fire damage can be neutered if a Monster is resistant to it can make its greater damage fickle. Not only that, you must hone in on Weakness Exploit to make full use of it!

Nihil Hammer I is another solid alternative since it has Water element coverage while still having the same amount of Focus and higher Green Sharpness. The damage difference, assuming that a Monster is not resistant to Water, is just a little bit lower than the suggested weapon.

If seeing big numbers is more your style, you can get the Bone Bludgeon III on the earlier stages of this bracket due its massive Raw Damage. This weapon has early access to Focus Lv 2 and Attack Boost Lv 1, setting it apart from most early-game Hammers!

Armor Alternatives Explanation
G. Arkveld Mail G. Arkveld Mail
Flayer Lv. 1

• Grants an additional level of Flayer at the cost of Partbreaker
• Unlocks the Decimator set bonus

The G. Arkveld Mail can work as an alternative chest piece if you would prefer more consistent damage with Wounds over Partbreaker's burst damage. It provides an additional level of *Flayer, allowing the build to focus more on building up wounds that buff up Weakness Exploit.

Slotting this in also unlock the Decimator set bonus skill, wherein you will heal for a significant amount whenever you break wounds. In essence, you will heal while in the middle of battle, in turn shortening hunt times!

Build Summary and Explanation

Group / Set Skills
Scorcher I

This build takes advantage of the newly reworked Weakness Exploit, giving you a hefty Affinity bonus to completely negate the negative Affinity of G. Veldian Malleus Iwhile increasing your damage on wounded parts.

With the help of Flayer, you will have better up-time on the increased damage. Furthermore, since the Hammer has a high base damage for its Focus Strike, the build also takes advantage of Partbreaker to pop wounds harder!

For general comfort, the build also includes two additional quality-of-life skills that are completely optional:

  • Marathon Runner - Having Marathon Runner gives you more leeway by lessening stamina depletion while charging up your Hammer.
  • Heroics - During critical moments, Heroics might save you from being carted by increasing your defense when on low health!
  • Handicraft - Extra sharpness is always nifty as it increases your overall damage by keeping your Hammer in pristine condition.

If you’re having trouble with Nu Udra, Balahara Hammer II is a great alternative that boasts a Water element and a total combo damage close to that of the Bone Bludgeon! Furthermore, it has Slugger 2 so you can get more KOs during the hunt.

As soon as you beat Nu Udra, the Nu Pulpo I is a sizable upgrade to have an easier time progressing through the first few monsters of HR 8. It has the same base raw as the Bone Bludgeon while having an additional upside of Fire damage!

However, both Protective Polish and Speed Sharpening do not synergize well with Hammers. It also has the caveat of having negative affinity, hurting your DPS in most scenarios!

The build fully takes advantage of Partbreaker, allowing you to break parts faster. As an additional effect, the damage dealt to Wounds upon using the already lethal Focus Strikes of the Hammer to be increased by 30%.

The build also includes two quality-of-life skill additions to make hunts feel much more comfortable:

  • Marathon Runner - You will be charging for most of the hunt, so having this skill gives you more leeway by lessening stamina depletion.
  • Evade Window - Since Charging Sway is now considered a dodge, this skill gives it more leniency in avoiding attacks!

The Jail Hammer is a solid alternative if you prefer having the ability to Paralyze Monsters for a single big pay-off while having a decently high Green sharpness. Furthermore, it has the Stamina Thief skill, making it easier for Monsters to get exhausted!

However, the damage the Jail Hammer does is lower than that of the Bone Bludgeon despite having better sharpness. You can only apply paralysis 1-2 times in a single hunt. These factors make the Bone Bludgeon ultimately better.

Powerhouse I

This early Low Rank Hammer build uses the Bone Bludgeon II's already high Raw Damage by exploiting Offsets, buffing it up with Powerhouse from the Doshaguma Set. This weapon has early access to Focus Lv 2 and Attack Boost Lv 1, setting it apart from most early-game Hammers!

The build also includes quality-of-life skill additions to make hunts feel much more comfortable:

  • Marathon Runner - You will be charging for most of the hunt, so having this skill gives you more leeway by lessening stamina depletion.
  • Evade Extender - Since Charging Sway is now considered a dodge, this skill gives it more range, allowing it to act as a gap closer!
  • Free Meal - Gives you the chance to not use up an item upon consumption, saving you more resources during the fight!.

(Great Sword)
• Great Swords can be considered the king of Offsets, so having this as a secondary with this build naturally synergizes.
• Overall has better defense, so you can swap into this if you need more Defense.
• Can be useful for maximizing damage of a sleeping monster.

Recommended Mantle

Mantle Effect
Ghillie MantleGhillie Mantle Temporarily conceal yourself from view. The effect ends if you perform an attack or take damage.

During the early game, you only can access the Ghillie Mantle. It allows you to easily sneak attack monsters for some good damage when starting the fight. As a tip, use this whenever the monster moves areas since they tend to be aware of their surroundings.
