Monster Hunter Wilds - How to Trigger a Power Clash
Power Clash is a new mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds that knocks down a monster when successfully performed. Check out how to trigger a Power Clash, what weapons can do it, and the effect of a successful Power Clash here.

How to Trigger a Power Clash

Requires Perfect Guard and Specific Monster Attacks

A Power Clash will only activate when you perfectly guard against specific monster attacks. It's important to note that it will not always activate even if you meet the requirements, so you'll need to constantly use Perfect Guard until you initiate a Power Clash.

Perfect Guards are indicated with a brief white glow and sparks from your shield or weapon. You can perfectly guard monster attacks by pressing the guard button right before the monster hits you.

Triggers Have a Cooldown

Power Clashes have an internal cooldown timer per monster which prevents them from being spammed during hunts. You can trigger a Power Clash against one monster multiple times, but it will take some time before it can happen again.

While the damage dealt to enemies is good, it would be better to constantly make your target topple over to provide more opportunities for attacking.

Enables Several Skills

Executing Power Clashes enables the Powerhouse Skill which temporarily increases your attack after a successful Power Clash or Offset attack, or the Binding Counter skill from the Jin Dahaad armor set.

Power Clash Slowly Decreases in Frequency

Similar to Mounting a monster, the Guard amount requirement to perform a Power Clash will increase the more times you do it.

To perform a Power Clash, you'll need to equip any weapon that can Guard. If your weapon can't block attacks, like a Bow for example, then you won't be able to perform this mechanic.

If you win a Power Clash, then you will counter the monster and knock them down. This counter also does damage to your foe, but it isn't as strong as a Focus Attack on a wound.

Hello Aquila! Thanks for mentioning this. We've updated our guide to mention that Power Clashes only have cooldowns and can still be triggered afterwards. We've also added more skills that can be triggered during Power Clashes. Hope you find this change helpful! :)
