Given Mizutsune's aquatic nature we speculate that it may be first encountered in the Scarlet Forest. With its flowing rivers and tendency to result in downpours, the Scarlet Forest is the ideal area for Mizutsune to thrive.
Mizutsune Monster Mechanics |

|
The information presented is based on the Mizutsune encounter from previous Monster Hunter games and is speculative at the moment.
Based on previous titles, Mizutsune is mainly a Water-based monster, making it most vulnerable to Thunder damage. Bringing weapons with Thunder element and using the Thunder Attack skill to take advantage of its weaknesses can make the fight less challenging.
Since it deals Water damage, you will want to make sure you have an adequate amount of resistance to water by picking the right armor or using equipment with the Water Resistance skill.
In previous games Mizutsune has access to bubble attacks that can inflict Bubbleblight, causing the hunter's movement to be come slippery at a high level. We expect Cleansers to be the best item for removing the Bubbleblight right away when needed.
In previous games, Bubbleblight can be turned to the hunter's advantage with the Bubbly Dance skill usually from Mizutsune's armor. That skill is better paired with skills, such as Resuscitate and Coalescence, that provide damage buffs while under abnormal status or from being cured of its effects, respectively
Bubbleblight has two effects on hunters depending on the number of stacks the hunter has accumulated. The First Stack grants a bonus to a hunter's evasive capabilities, while the second stack causes hunters to slip, leaving them vulnerable to attacks.
A noteworthy mechanic of Mizustune's bubble attacks is that colored bubbles can grant buffs (in addition to Bubbleblight) to the hunter it hits. In previous games, green bubbles restore health while red bubbles grant Attack boosts.
Mizutsune returns with its iconic sweeping Water Beam attack reminiscent of monsters like Coral Pukei-Pukei and Plesioth. Watch out for this attack once you are able to hunt it! Dodge through it with your dodge's I-frames or use a shield to block it.
Tempered Mizutsune is confirmed to be arriving on Title Update 1 and will be an 8★ quest. Hunters will need to have a Hunter Rank of HR41 and above to take on this quest.
Tempered Mizutsune was teased in the Title Update 1 trailer.
Tempered Mizutsune appears to be similar to the Soulseer Mizutsune of past titles, its flaming eye being its most notable feature when enraged.
Difficulty | Expected Rewards |
---|---|
8★ | Hunt Completion Breaking Tempered Wounds |
Given that the quest will be an 8★ hunt, Tempered Mizutsune is expected to provide similar Rarity 8 rewards (especially materials for Artian weapons) as the other 8★ Tempered monster Arkveld.
