How to Beat Arch-Tempered Uth Duna

How to Beat AT Uth Duna

Use Thunder Weapons

Tiltkreise Thunder Weapon
Similar to regular Uth Duna, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna is weak to Thunder. It's best to use builds and weapons that utilize the Thunder element. You may even incorporate the Thunder Attack skill, which further increases your Thunder damage.

You can utilize Thunder Artian Weapons, Rey Dau weapons, or Lagiacrus weapons to take advantage of the monster's weakness to Thunder.

List of All Weapons

Increase Water Resistance

Arch-Tempered Uth Duna utilizes water attacks along with its physical attacks. This can inflict Waterblight to hunters, which decreases your stamina recovery. You can remove Waterblight by using a Nulberry or dodge-rolling continuously, but it'll make the hunt smoother if you can prevent Waterblight altogether.

Use Flash Pods to Stop Twist Dive Midair

When Arch-Tempered Uth Duna does its Twist Dive attack, where it leaps into the air to flop its body on you, you can actually flinch it mid-attack with a Flash Pod to stop it. This may also knock it down and you can get a good damage window from it!

Be careful as you can still get damaged by the initial jumps, even if AT Uth Duna doesn't complete its belly flop. Even just touching it while it's mid-air can cart you if you're not careful.

Flash Pod Location: How to Get and Uses

Get Rid of the Veils First

Similar to regular Uth Duna, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna has veils covering its whole body. These reduce the damage the monster takes. Keep attacking the veils to remove them so you don't have to deal with the reduced damage for a while.

Do note that AT Uth Duna grows the veils back after some time. It's especially harder to get rid of them from the arch-tempered variant of this monster.

Focus Strike Its Mouth After Double Twist Dive Attack

When angered, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna will do its Twist Dive attack twice in a row. After the second one, Focus Strike its mouth if it glows red in Focus Mode. A successful Focus Strike to this Weak Point deals good damage to the monster, and may even knock it down for a brief moment.

How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike

Use Aquatic/Oilsilt Mobility Lv.2 Skill to Combat Waves

While hunting, Uth Duna produces waves to disrupt your combos and mess up your positioning. Arch-Tempered Uth Duna further weaponizes this to damage you and bring you to compromising positions for its own attacks.

Using the Aquatic/Oilsilt Mobility skill at Lv.2 negates the disrupting effect of AT Uth Duna's waves. Just remember the skill has to be at Level 2 as Level 1 is not enough. You can wear armor pieces with this skill or slot in decorations with the skill.

Do note as well that this skill does not negate the damage that some waves cause, even at Level 2. It just allows you to pass through them.

Use the Dam Rubble in Area 15

If you find yourself in Area 15 with Arch-Tempered Uth Duna, make sure to utilize the Dam Rubble environmental trap by the waterfall. Activating this trap deals huge damage to the monster and knocks it down for a while. A good damage window if you don't get too caught up in the trap's waves.

How to Set and Activate Traps

Use the Loch Ruins in Area 17

When angered, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna will do its Wave Call attack when in Area 17. Once it dives into the water, drop the Loch Ruins when the monster is right underneath them in order to stop the attack and knock it out the water. This gives you a great damage window as well.

Use Unstable Rubble in Area 13

Sometimes, Arch-Tempered Uth Duna will swim by Area 13. If you can time it well, you can drop the Unstable Rubble on it to stop it in its tracks and deal huge damage.

Destroy Tempered Wounds

Whenever wounds appear on Arch-Tempered Uth Duna, make sure to Focus Strike or break them every time. Not only does this give you Wyverian Bloodstones, but it also staggers AT Uth Duna. It occasionally also knocks it down!

You can also utilize Offset Attacks or Power Clashes along with wound breaking to really maximize your damage windows.

Wounding Mechanic Explained

Use Shock and Pitfall Traps

Remember that Arch-Tempered Uth Duna is still susceptible to Shock Traps and Pitfall Traps. AT Uth Duna is much more mobile than its regular variant. Coupled with its faster movement and less delays between its attacks, it's always good to find ways to stop this monster in its tracks.

Start in Area 17 Camp

Arch-Tempered Uth Duna will often spawn in Area 17, especially in the These Roots Run Deep Event Quest. If you have a Pop-Up Camp set up there, setting your departure point to the Great Lake Shore camp will save you time travelling towards the monster.
