Insect Glaive is a mobile weapon that uses a Kinsect to extract essences from enemies in Monster Hunter Wilds. See all the new moves for the Insect Glaive, how to use it, the controls, as well as the pre-launch update.
List of Contents
The Insect Glaive's Aerial Combo (Vaulting Dance) makes a return, allowing you to jump into air multiple times as long as you hit the monster. You will be able to combo into a variety of aerial actions after vaulting, giving you some freedom as to how your combo will go. In addition, Aerial Attack power will increase by two levels each time you vault, so make sure to maximize the damage whenever you do this combo.
Another change to the Insect Glaive is to its extracts. The Orange extract now also negates knockback while your weapon is drawn. Additionally, having all extracts (Red, White, and Orange) will now mitigate wind pressure, tremors, and roars. Lastly, an offset effect was added at the beginning of Descending Slash.

Note: This new move can only be performed when all three extracts have been collected.
Rising Spiral Slash is a powerful attack that can only be performed if you've collected all three coloured extracts. Using Rising Spiral Slash will cancel your enhanced state but if it manages to hit the monster, you do a ton of damage and collect extracts depending on the parts you hit.
As a note, this attack counts as an aerial attack, meaning that you can also mount the monster whenever you use this move.

This new move is used to deal extra damage to a monster's wound. Using this move will also make your Kinsect pierce through the monster to collect Red, White, and Orange extracts.

You can use Kinsects to harvest extracts from monsters to strengthen yourself. Holding down L2 while in Focus Mode, the Kinsect will attack with you and collect the extracts from the enemy.
Different colours of essences can be collected from various parts of a monster. There are Red, White, Orange and Green essences. Which essences can be collected from parts differ depending on the monster.
Color | Effect | Duration |
---|---|---|
Red | ・Allows charged attacks | 90s |

This table uses information from the Beta and there may be more Kinsect types in the full-release version.
Each Kinsect is unique in that they all have a different combination of Attack Type, Dust Effect, and stats. When getting a new Kinsect, make sure to choose the one that best fits your playstyle or the needs of your build.
Generally speaking, it's recommended to use fast Kinsects so that they can harvest and deliver extracts to you as soon as possible.
The Insect Glaive has a lot of movement options that make it an excellent weapon to use when attacking from the air. It can be used to launch surprise attacks not just on airborne monsters, but also on monsters on the ground potentially mounting them in the process.

This is a basic grounded combo that you use against monsters that are either knocked down or are hard to hit while in midair. Ideally, you want to do this combo when you have all three extracts since your moveset will change and become empowered.

This is a basic combo that both applies and procs your Kinsect's Dust Effect. Just make sure to space your jump correctly so that you can hit the Dust Effect and the monster at the same time.

This is the standard movement combo that helps you close great distances through the air. Remember that you can also Evade sideways and backwards so that you can better position yourself for your Advancing Slash to hit.
It should be noted that this combo is also great for mounting monsters or hitting body parts that are normally out of melee range!

Once you have full extracts, use this combo to deal massive damage to the monster. The only downside, however, is that you will use up all three extracts with this combo. Thankfully, you'll get some of it back depending on which body parts you hit with the attack.
