One of Xu Wu's attacks requires it exposing its mouth. Focus all attacks on the mouth to topple it and deal massive damage to the Xu Wu.
You can escape the Xu Wu's grab attack by using any Slinger Pods. Prepare these items in advance in case you get grabbed by the Xu Wu.
Focus on attacking the Xu Wu's mouth, head, and arms to break them, with the mouth being its main weakness once it is exposed. Additionally, breaking the parts and severing 4 of its hind tentacles will yield more rewards.
Interact with the environment and use traps to disrupt the Xu Wu and gain advantage during the hunt.

Against Xu Wu, It's good to bring healing and buff items such as Demondrugs and Armorskins. If you already have it, the Armorcharm and Powercharm are great buff items that passively increase your stats.
For the mantles, choose a mantle that suits your playstyle. For a defensive playstyle, go for either the Evasion or Mending Mantle, and go for the Corrupted Mantle for a more offensive playstyle.
Use Dragon Pods from picking up Wyrmsbanes to deal additional damage. Use either the Pitfall or Shock Trap combined with the Tranq Bombs to capture it to finish your hunt faster.
