Stop monsters from fleeing by using your slinger in Monster Hunter Wilds. Learn how to effectively stop monsters from running away, and why you should stop them in this guide!
Once a monster starts to flee, sheathe your weapon and shoot them with your Slinger loaded with a Luring Pod to redirect their attention back to you. This is the most effective out of any Pods that can disorient monsters, as they will continue to run away after getting momentarily stunned regardless.
Don't worry if you miss your shot, as Monsters that run away from you can be tracked by following the Scoutfly trail that appears as the monster runs away, or by following their icon through the minimap.
Scoutfly Guide: How to Track Monsters
Another strategy is to pre-set traps along likely escape routes. Placing a Shock or Pitfall Trap in advance can stop a fleeing monster, though this works best in enclosed areas with limited exits rather than open spaces with multiple escape paths.
These traps will automatically be activated once a monster steps within its vicinity, allowing you time to immediately deal your blows.
Multiple traps can also be found across the map depending on your location, which you can activate at any time when the opportunity presents itself, although it will require very precise timing to perform correctly.
Most environmental traps can be manually activated by interacting with its prompt once you get closer, or by shooting them with your Slinger from afar.
Stopping a monster from running away makes hunting them faster, as it prevents the downtime that occurs as a monster runs to a different location. This will especially be useful during hunts that require you to take down a monster within a specific timeframe.
