Note: The Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation open beta tests are available to those who are not subscribed to Game Pass Core/Ultimate and PlayStation Plus respectively.
If you are playing on Steam and Xbox, the open beta test will be available from October 31, 2024 8:00PM (PT) to November 3, 2024 6:59PM (PT).
The official Monster Hunter Twitter/X mentions that it is not required to preorder Monster Hunter Wilds to play the Open Beta Test.

In the open beta test, you can play the three features: character creation, story trial, and the Doshagum Hunt quest. Online multiplayer is possible with crossplay, so you can play with people from different consoles.
You can customize your character and Palico during the open beta test. The character creation settings can be carried over to the full version if you have a save data.
You can play through the story starting from the opening cutscene and through the Chatacabra hunt.
The Doshaguma Hunt is also available in the open beta test. In this hunt, the goal is to defeat the alpha of the Doshaguma pack using pre-prepared equipment and items.

The only feature that carries over from the open beta test to the final version is your character creation settings. Story progress, acquired items, and materials cannot be carried over.
If you have a save data from the open beta test, you will receive a pendant when you play the full version.
