A Bird Wyvern

The Yian Kut-Ku is a Bird Wyvern, a group of monsters who are primarily bipedal, with apperances movements similar to raptors or chickens. Examples of Bird Wyverns from previous games include the Pukei-Pukei, the Tzitzi-Ya-Ku, and the other returning Bird Wyvern Gypceros.

A Fan Favorite

The Yian Kut-Ku is also considered a fan favorite, with many veteran hunters lovingly calling it Kut-Ku Sensei, or Teacher Kut-Ku.

This is due to the fact that in older games, the Yian Kut-Ku served as the first major wall that new hunters had to surpass before making progress in the game.

Will Likely Be in a Monster Herd

Official videos hint that the Yian Kut-Ku will likely be part of a monster herd, where groups of the same monster band together under an Alpha.

You will likely be asked to hunt down a group of Yian Kut-Ku, something even veteran hunters have a hard time in.

How to Beat Yian Kut-Ku

Yian Kut-Ku Monster Fight Tips

Bring Sonic Pods to Disorient It

Yian Kut-Ku has large and sensitive ears, making it vulnerable to Sonic Pods. Using one will disorient the Yian Kut-Ku and force it to stay in place. This gives you a window to attack it without fear of retaliation.

The downside is that once the Yian Kut-Ku recovers from the Sonic Pod, it will immediately enter Rage mode, so be ready for that.

Bring Dung Pods to Make Fights Easier

Since Yian Kut-Ku will likely be part of a monster herd, you might face multiple Yian Kut-Kus. When that happens, using Dung Pods to isolate a single Yian Kut-Ku is vital.

Water Weapons Deal More Damage

Based on previous games, Yian Kut-Kus are weak to Water element weapons. As such, bring Water weapons or Water Ammunition for the Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun to easily deal with the Yian Ku-Ku.

Avoid its Peck Attack as Much as Possible

The Yian Kut-Ku's peck attack is one of its most iconic attacks, and can constantly knock you down if you don't get out of the way immediately. When the Yian Kut-Ku prepares its peck attack, either run away, block the attacks, or get behind the Kut-Ku.

Possible Yian Kut-Ku Moves

Yian Kut-Ku Attack Pattern on Previous Games

Although the Yian Kut-Ku was not present in the previous Open Beta, it is possible to guess what its possible moves are based on previous games.

Move Explanation
Side-to-Side Fireball Spit
One of the Yian Kut-Ku's signature moves, especially when enraged, is the side-to-side fireball spit. The Yian Kut-Ku prepares to charge forward, then does so while spitting fireballs from side to side.
Fireball Spit When not enraged, the Yian Kut-Ku can spit fireballs at the player.
Peck The Yian Kut-Ku will peck in front of it like a chicken. This can potentially stunlock players, especially since the Yian Kut-Ku usually does this multiple times in a row.
Rush The Yian Kut-Ku will rush at the player, either by gliding close to the ground or by running.
