This is an article about how to lock onto a target using the lock on camera system in Monster Hunter Wilds. See this guide if you want to know how to lock onto targets as well as the difference between target camera or focus camera!
When near an enemy or a target monster, press the right analog stick to lock-on enemies. Press it again to toggle between targets.
If pressing the right analog stick does not let you lock-on targets, check your camera settings in-game and make sure that the lock-on setting is turned on!
Type 1 | Pressing the L1 or LB button once lets the camera face the target. If pressed twice, the camera faces the same direction as the player. |
---|---|
Type 2 | Pressing the L1 or LB button once lets the camera point in the same direction as the player. If pressed twice, the camera switches to the target. |
Type 3 | Pressing the L1 or LB button once lets the camera focus on the target. If pressed twice, nothing happens. |
Type 4 | Pressing the L1 or LB button once lets the camera face in the same direction as the player. If pressed twice, nothing happens. |
Feel free to choose the type that suits your preference, but it is recommended to use Type 1 or Type 3 Camera Setting to have an easier time operating the camera overall.
Focus Camera setting is fit for beginners to use due to the camera automatically following the monster you are locked onto.
This allows you to focus mainly on your combos instead of manually recentering the camera by tapping the Right Analog Stick.

This camera style is the default setting in Monster Hunter Rise. If you are coming back from Monster Hunter World, this camera style may feel weird to use, mainly because it is very active.
Press the L Button whenever you want to recenter the camera towards the monster you locked-on!

Align with the target | Align the vertical orientation of the target camera with the target's position. |
---|---|
Stationary | Vertical orientation of the target camera is the same, regardless of the position of the target. |
Level | Orients the target camera vertically regardless of the position of the target monster. |
Height Difference | Align the vertical orientation of the target camera with the target monster and its height. |
Filter the target selection to large monsters only to avoid aiming at unintended targets during battle.
For the link between target selection and goal selection, feel free to set it to linked only at the time of targeting or not linked.
